yeah this is just an ultimate nepo baby speed running destroying billions of dollars of shareholder value, saying "whoopsie!" and retiring to his own pedo island with his daddy when it all falls apart

netflix works right now because tons of retards are subscribed to it and keep paying no matter what shit gets shoveled out. there is no other service like it. disney, apple TV, amazon prime, paramount+ (lol) all have fractions of the subs and netflix is still viewed as many as "the one to keep". paramount+ / peacock are a joke as far as numbers, and have zero global reach too. buying HBO shows does absolutely nothing to change the landscape in any way.

the future is even bleaker because kids are growing up on tik tok, twitch, live streaming not HBO and hour long dramas. Most can't even follow basic plots in hour long shows anymore, they are distracted by phones and would rather watch their fellow kids act like tards on stream than Peaky Blinders or Andor.

Its just gonna get worse and worse as the audience numbers needed require global audiences and they are all fighting for shrinking markets, similar to console gaming. The future is influencers, PC gaming, mobile gaming, and occasional big budget auter movies (Nolan, Gerwig, DenisV etc) not Game of Thrones.

i could see in a year or two netflix buying a massive online influencer brand and start streaming Mr Beast on Netflix or something equally crazy to drive sub growth, while Paramount will be stuck dealing with trying to pay off $100b in debt with a shrinking revenue base.

I saw an interview with Matt Damon I think about working with Netflix, and a requirement they had is to explain the plot 3-4 times during the movie because people are distracted by phones and need to be reminded so they can follow what's happening.

The sad part is that it probably make sense to be honest.

Netflix will be the long term winner - apparently they get close to 3 billion in compensation for the deal falling apart. I suspect paramount might have to start selling assets soon, regardless as to any hypothetical monopoly concerns (which I doubt will be pursued)

Saw a good number breakdown in comments: the $12B company is outbidding the $350B+ company so they can pay $111B, take on $33B of debt, and pay Netflix ~$3B for the privilege.
$24B will come from the Saudis.

few days after netflix walks away from WB (getting $3b in payout from paramount for walking away) they spend < $100m to buy a 16 person AI startup founded by Ben Affleck that improves production of content. Probably gonna save $500m+ a year (netflix spends $20b/yr on content, at least $5b on VFX), also kind of funny that Ben founded this company just 2 years after going on strike about AI replacing workers etc

If only HBO had it, could have detected all the water bottles on the Game of Thrones set before the episodes aired.

I'd hope AI would have explained how the High Sparrow storyline in season 7 with Cersei was easily what made the end of GoT terrible. I just rewatched the entire series over the last 2 weeks and it's so obvious the biggest detriment to the show is that god awful storyline. Season 8 wasn't actually that bad and after watching the entire thing with seasons back to back the end of the show is a bit overblown with the criticism.

Main complaint I've seen for 8 that I'd agree with is that the Daenerys downfall into madness was too rushed.

Literally everything that happened was stupid and every character was fucking retarded. I don't know if I'd put her sudden turn in the top 10, not because it wasn't dumb as shit but because the sheer volume of stupid shit from that back alley abortion of a season

Care to provide some examples? I thought Jon going off with the wildlings past the wall was a good ending for him. A lot of people hated Arya killing the Night King but watching the whole show through without breaks you could see that building over a few seasons. I think Bran becoming King was stupid.

I don't get the hate about the Arya thing. What's the point of spending a huge part of the show making her into a super assassin if she's not going to assassinate someone huge?

Bran being king makes logical sense. Seems like an omniscient rational entity with no personal ambitions beyond what's best for the realm is something worth trying but it was so out of nowhere it was pretty anticlimactic and Tyrion's speech about it was kind of dumb. The whole 3-eyed Raven thing was never really explained either as far as I know. I mean I get what he was, but what was the purpose of him? Seems like the old guy just sat in the tree roots but then Bran was off to conquer the world after an unspecified training period.

My problem with Bran being King is that there is no way the Lords of Westeros would ever let some cripple run the realm. Sansa leading the North was a good end for her too.

Jon going to the wall that doesn't exist to keep out the white walkers that don't exist in order to please the army that's leaving Westeros anyway. Super smart ending.

Arya being a super assassin is fucking retarded and not earned. She barely beat the waif and would have gotten her shit wrecked if she didn't spend so much time blind. There's no reason she should be better than anyone who spent a large portion of their life actually sword training. It not being Jon wouldn't be nearly as bad if they hadn't foreshadowed him vs the Night King so much. They didn't have to keep setting up Jon vs Night King, they chose to do that just to not give it to us which is a huge dick move.

Dani "Just kinda forgot about the iron fleet"

Jamie suddenly deciding "I bailed on my sister because she's evil, now she's even more evil so I'm gonna go back and die now". His entire arc was pointless and stupid.

The Iron Islands deciding that even though their whole thing was they wanted independence, just kinda forgot that's what they wanted and go along as a member of the 7 Kingdoms, even when Sansa decided the North won't follow anyone who isn't a Stark, DESPITE THE NEW KING BEING A FUCKING STARK. Not only that, but he's going to live for 100+ years, but sure ok the North can be free of the Stark reign that they want while the Iron Islands can eat shit.

Could write a novel on just the Long Night alone. Their military tactics are the most retarded I've ever seen in a tv show or movie. Absolute fucking clown show. Dothraki go out and commit suicide for some reason and are completely wiped out, then magically half of them are still fucking alive somehow. Non-stop plot armor with main characters about to die, then scene changes and when it goes back they somehow got out of it and are ok again only to end up in another "oh shit they're dead" scenario. Happened to some characters 3 times where they magically survived. Plot armor should not be a thing in Game of Thrones but it was everywhere the last couple seasons.

Arya sneaking around the library where zombies are slowly looking around for her. It's a massive fucking battle outside, why is it suddenly a stealth mission inside?? Fucking retarded. And where the fuck is she flying from when she goes after the Night King? And why does he just hold her by the neck and stare at her? Hollywood plot armor and complete nonsense.

Anyone who says Bran is "omniscient" is a fucking retard. He only sees things in real time, so he doesn't know everything and can only see what he even knows to look for. That also doesn't have anything to do with his decision making. You can know everything that happened and still make shit decisions.

The speech Tyrion gives about how Bran should be king because he has a great story. You have to have fucking brain damage to think the writers sucking themselves of with that bullshit isn't fucking atrocious.

I'm sure there's more that I've blocked out, this was just off the top of my head
