I found detailed spoilers and unless the dialogue is off, it seems like a mix.



Sinon is captured and used as a sacrifice. Unlike in the Aenid, it seems Odysseus more overtly betrays him and Sinon dies (which he did not in most of the classical references). When they meet in the underworld, he is bitter about the betrayal.

Achilles is bitter and depressed in the Odyssey but not at Odysseus. It's a different dynamic.

Characters merged? Yeah, but it honestly makes sense with the first part. If they didn't do the end of the Trojan war, the change would be way less defensible narratively.

Sinon plays a big part in getting in the horse. It makes total sense for his character to be there given the above.

The character is in Dante's inferno in the underworld so again not necessarily a replacement but then Nolan is pulling from more than The Odyssey. Having the Trojan Horse and sacking of Troy already makes it clear he's not sticking to just The Odyssey.

If he actually has the same kind of interaction with Sinon (if that takes place in the underworld) as Achilles, then I'll agree it's a replacement. Right now, the Trojan horse is a better explanation for the character being in the movie.

The Iliad being a prologue is not reaching, Dantes inferno is. The Iliad is book 1 the odyssey is book 2 basically so that is all good… usually growing up it was always “the Iliad and the odyssey” because usually they were read and studies together.

Sinon was not in the Iliad, either. He's in the Roman Aeneid, so Nolan is doing more than just sticking to Homer.

That bit does not jive with what Pageau is blathering on about in his chatty chat about how this is all actually good.

From what you say it demeans Odysseus wit and cunning as that is what his big deal was, that he can out wit/smart not only the Trojans but the gods.

Okay, so much as I don't care about watching the movie, I probably have even less desire to watch these three fags talk about the movie. I turn it on for like 10 seconds and all I saw was stupid shells with knick knacks and bobbleheads in the background. Oh and you can't forget the neon lighting, because everybody apparently from video games, movies, and even things like firearms always make certain to have that in your stupid set design.

I really do hate the internet and the influencer bullshit.

think it'll break $200m opening? Week 2 is pretty clear (nothing new opening) so wonder what the drop will be, 40-60% tends to be typical nowadays for big movies while a 30% or less drop would be considered very strong word of mouth.

will RLM review this right away? I suspect they will like it a lot for the film-making, although they bagged on Oppenheimer for the sound I think.

Odysseus is the one who came up with the plan for Sinon, though. That doesn't detract. It's like Odysseus is the director/writer and Sinon is the actor.

If the scene in the film comes off more like an overt betrayal by Odysseus then I think that only adds to the idea of him being cunning as he not only came up with the plan to trick the Trojans but convinced the sacrifice to go along with it. A lot will depend on how it's written but Odysseus isn't exactly a great caretaker of his men in the epic.

The core character story that appears to be retained is Sinon not Achilles, though. A bitter Sinon with a personal angst against Odysseus plays better than a sad and introspective Achilles who longs for his old life.

Again, this somewhat depends on what the dialogue is actually like. If Odysseus sees Sinon in the underworld and refers to him the greatest warrior who ever lived, then yeah that's fucking dumb.

Helen being black isnt the problem. Helen being hideously, repulsively ugly is the problem. Now granted, she's ugly cause shes black. But the race isnt directly the problem, its the ugliness.

Did they address the ugly problem or just address that shes black while still pretending she's pretty? Cause that just sounds like DEI casting with extra steps.

I usually like listening to Jonathan talk about art in the Church throughout history etc...but he really lost me in this. If Mel Gibson made this movie, I could see the 4D Chess bait and switch going on.........but not Nolan. This is a vanity project as far as I can see.
