There's no character named Sinon in the Odyssey. Just this Oddity.
I am aware. Nolan obviously wasn't trying to make a 100% faithful adaptation of the poem. The changes and the pulling from other sources are used as part of the larger story he is telling here, and the subtle social commentary.

Oppenheimer was good right? I haven't seen it yet.

I enjoyed it. Some people criticize it for being a bit too lenient on Oppenheimer's involvement with the Communists, but IIRC Nolan did his research before the full extent of Oppenheimer's involvement was known (IIRC, the historical understanding was that he was a 'fellow traveler' and had communist sympathies but never actually joined the party, but it came out shortly after the movie that he did briefly join the party after the film created increased historical interest/scrutiny in Oppenheimer).

However, I think the movie is overall fair at portraying him as a brilliant and well-meaning but arrogant and neurotic wreck with an absolute clusterfuck of a personal life.

Love it when anything becomes political you just can't trust anything.

Why it shouldn't have been called The Odyssey. It's obvious a dumb subversion of the Odyssey, the Oddity.

had some good family news (new grandkid incoming) so went out to see one of the OG family stories.

6.5/10, there are some breathtaking mythological sequences that are fantastic to watch on the big screen. at least 3 that i really enjoyed, especially if you know your greek stories. first hour is a total slog, last hour is mixed - some great stuff, but the main hall fight i thought really sucked. dog is 10/10.

yeah lot of woke goy slop in the movie, odyssey's XO (riker) is himesh patel, a pajeet, and is in the movie way more than helen/tranny. he's not bad but its just silly an indian is in a greek mythic story as a main character. the language thing was REALLY annoying, every time tom holland says "mom!" i am out of the movie and just wondering what peter parker is up to. i rarely felt immersed in this movie like westerns or war movies or The Dark Knight or Fury Road, but the middle 90 minutes of the movie (with little dialogue) is solid greek story telling.

not really worth a trek out to theaters, easily watchable at home in 3 months.

Memento was pretty righteous as far as psychological thrillers go.

Also, I put on 2004 Troy just to see. Achilles kills Rictus Erectus and Diane Kruger gets her tits out in the first ten minutes of the movie.

Why are we even talking about this new thing?
Partially because the fat progressive liberal Canadian is successfully trolling people in the thread, much like he did in the Politics thread before he was banned there.

Really good criticism of the costumes in this movie from a historical fashion/costume youtuber. This movie has the same costume designer as the first season of Brigerton which makes a lot sense for why it looks so off.

More trickery. There are layers and layers of deception and manipulation surrounding the movie and within the movie. Some with ill intent, some with good intent.

The largely negative reaction from the right may have a surprising effect on getting people to watch it who otherwise wouldn't but should.

i'd bet empty 70mm imax tickets are resellers who bought and couldn't resell. there are 200+ listings on ebay, and probably tons more on fbm. i hope those fuckers are losing money lol

haha there are people on my local fbm trying to sell the shitty imax popcorn bucket for this movie. who the fuck wants a camera popcorn bucket, you can't even jerk off in it

there is one hilarious scene in the movie where penelope starts screaming about how she has been sitting on the throne for 20 years and its not fair that women can't rule but it goes nowhere, just more modern creep. the costume video is on point for how modern so much of it looks (troy too), also most of the city locations are way too clean, i have to imagine a lot of those places were filthy and the people gross AF. works great for future scifi stuff, looks uncanny valley wrong when applied to history.

The only time Greek is spoken is when a Greek city is being pillaged by the sea people. When the Greek man asks if his attackers are the sea people, the diverse group denies it and claims to be Greek. This same group contains a member of the elite, the king himself, denying that he is among the sea people, denying responsibility for the pillaging of his fellow Greeks. Very interesting.

It definitely goes somewhere...

Compare the family of Odysseus to the families of Agamemnon and Menelaus.
