Nothing about Apocalypto was remotely historically accurate. Mayan civilization it pretends to show is off by hundreds of years, while also being mashed up with Aztec sacrifices which they didn't do, small-post stuff which didn't happen unti centuries latter, etc..

Nolan could've filmed the Odyssee with Troy being invaded by Julius Caesar and a bunch of Romans wearing Viking armour and it'd have been more historically accurate than Apocalypto, lol.
They absolutely did human sacrifices. Both Aztecs and Mayans. As well as plenty of evidence of both.

Apocalypto didn't depict them as Noble Savages and the Spanish as cartoon villains, so of course the liberal european dicksucker is going to criticize it. He's just parroting what I'm sure his sources have said about it.

Gibson making a sequel to Apocalypto would be preferable to another Odyssey.

I don't know why you feel this is such a huge gotcha. Actual theater goers for the opening weekend film often give a positive review when prompted. I'm also going to wager that someone who has the app and is willing to respond to the prompt generally likes movies, unlike the many who say how they don't go to a theater anymore because it's just not worth it.

Yes, there's surely a selection bias towards positive reviews but at least they watched the movie. It's why stuff like Cinemascore almost never sees lower than a C grade for movies, and even that's rare enough. You can at least still make relative comparisons.

All the people who knew they would hate a film simply don't go to the theater.

I'm sure the unverified audience has plenty of people who watched the movie but I guarantee you there's a ton of people who haven't and just want to put their zero or ten.

Don't try to pretend all the unverified actually saw it, either, not for a culture war flashpoint. You can see the very same behavior right here when the film had 14 one star reviews to virtue signal before it was even available to watch. Both systems have issues, but I don't see how that is the superior route at all.
It's not that it's a huge "gotcha" it's just that it's going to be heavily skewed towards a batch of people who were always going to be positive to a film in the first place. I believe IMDB is much better: open it up to everyone and just see where it falls. Of course you'll have a huge swath of people who, at release, will dump a 10/10 or 0/10 on their review.

An open system, over time, will eventually get you a more honest reaction - certainly not perfect though.

i had an account with IMDB (or was it rotten tomatos? damn i kind of forget now)... some years ago. i reviewed every TV show and movie i saw for a bit. then it was suddenly deleted for no raisin given. i'm not sure what protected movie or series i came across but i stopped reviewing things.

There's also clear incentive for these websites to push people to theaters, especially considering the levels in which this industry is (understandably) struggling.

Indeed, we have a thread for that. ;)
We have a whole section for retards but this thread still has a lot of them spamming it up. ;)

To get on topic, tho, still not gonna watch this trash movie. From what I can gather it appears that this movie has almost as many shenanigans around its positive reviews as Biden did around his votes... Seems like the same crowd supports both, too. Coincidence?

Technically true, but Apocalypto was still a GREAT story and a great movie. The blend of Maya, Aztec, and Europeans was a different spin, but Gibson never claimed to be making historically accurate movies, just good ones. Honeslty who actually saw this coming?

I am excited to see what Mel puts together with his siege of Malta mini series. He loves the topic and generally hates Islam so I am interested in what he comes up with. Really a good idea to see how much fire he has in the directors chair still
