My cheap backup. Since I travel between two locations often I keep this set at my parents house. Gretsch Jr which is just little thinner body, monoprice stage right tube amp and some extra pedals I no longer use. Amp and guitar total new is less than $500, Gretsch is midnight saphire which doesn't show up well in low light. It's the lightest guitar I own now, even lighter than my acoustic which is what I was going for and thinner body to help with holding it. Yeah noticed mask on closet door, only one I ever got and I think I wore it once to a hospital, like a monument to stupidity I'll keep it around lol.

My regular at home gear is a Fender Made in America Telecaster and a MIM telecaster with either a Fender Blues Jr. amp or Twin Reverb which I no longer use much as it's entirely too much for my house.

fuuuuuck yeeessss

play:

So I don't consider myself a good guitar player by any means. But lately I've been forcing myself to learn more theory by playing lots and lots of blues tutorials on youtube. It's really fucking fun. I even switch over to the 7 string to do some crazy heavy power chords in my bluesy riffs. ahhhh good times

Also Rickshaw billie burger patrol

What's the deal with the Solar seven strings? I see a lot of YouTube players using them.

If you're familiar with the YouTuber Ola Englund(how could you not be..), it's his company.

Theyre decent guitars with high level appointments (SS frets) with questionable QC. They're all made in Indonesia i believe. They've been struck with some major issues like inlays/necks cracking

Because he exclusively sells them direct to consumers, they're cheaper than most. But... You have to pay import duties. Also he has a real big roster of signature artists.

Id rather buy Ibanez for the money, but I'm an Ibanez whore.

Merry Cristmas to me. Part of my Christsmas present that go tlost in the UPS was delivered today. My girlfriend bought me the phaser I mentioned before but she also ordered a Boss Blues Driver to have at both places I have guitars and amps so I didn't have to move it.

Just in time. I mean only 2 months late.

Alright, time to level up my shitty skills and learn to play Hysteria.
I'm up to around 85% speed with decent enough accuracy at this point. I'm kinda shit at all the hammer-ons in the chorus, and there are a few transitions I find tricky but pretty pleased w/ the progress so far.

Man it took me a good bit of time to finally find a tone on my Boss Katana that did the guitar justice.

I never knew how much of a pain getting that seventh string to sound good on an amp would be :(
7 strings easily go into the muddy territory. I usually use a boost not really so much for gain (a little maybe), but really to tighten the low end.

Anyone here play swedish death metal chainsaw tones?

I have a MIJ HM-2 I run into my orange thunderverb, but I’m thinking of picking up the KMA Wyrm2 and the Lichtlaerm Medusa. Not really sure if they’re big improvements on the HM-2 w/ a noise gate.

I mean I have the ability to play what in my mind sounds like a chainsaw tone.

sounds more or less like you just like the HM-2 tone and want to expand on it. Id say go with the empress effects pedal in that case. Because all that pedal is is an HM-2 with more tonality control and more gain control. which isnt a bad thing. its a good thing to explore.

however you might just end up finding yourself happy with the HM-2 at the end of the day.

I feel that. I suspect also that I may be chasing the same issue I had with overdrives.

I have currently 2 overdrives: ibanez ts9 and a Maxon od808x (a od808 made and modified by Maxon). The od808x is a little too sharp imo, even with the tone (treble) knob at 0 it’s still slightly too sharp. I turn down the tone knob on my guitar to compensate. I usually play in drop B or D standard.

With overdrives, I’ve bought others, too. The EQD Arrows and returned it. I also then bought the Lichtlaerm Aesahaettr boost w/ cut and eq. Eq section was really metallic sounding (only way I know how to describe it, even slightly adjustments to mid or high made it sound very tinny), and I didn’t use the cut knob more than the first week. I ended up reselling it on eBay.

Now I know not to chase after the perfect overdrive because I already have two, a 808 and a ts9, and I’m happy with those.
