for some reason a vid about the first movie showed up on my youtube feed. reportedly this one doubles the budget of the first one with $140m. it was filmed in 2022. in 2023, mahoney said the way this one ends will need a follow up. last oct, they filmed for 2 more weeks.
the 1st one wasn't that great and was near peak girl boss + lbqt+

You have to marvel at how many millions upon millions of dollars gets pissed away on this shit. I know I've said it before and I'll say it again I don't understand how you can have hundreds of people involved in a project like this and someone not sit and say this is crap, why are we doing this. I guess everybody's collecting a check, or at least hoping to.

Maybe it comes down to retarded producers.

Just watched it. It's pretty good. I could name better movies, but I could name twice as many that are worse. Based on the ending, they're planning a 3rd movie.

I think this movie suffers from being a whole new universe that we know nothing about. Like, what are the limits of this immortality? Where does it come from? Why does the CIA want to stop suffering and war? Shit like that. You wait 5 years between movies and we fucking forget whatever you told us or hinted at in the first movie. I didn't even remember charlize lost her immortality until they mentioned it halfway into that first action sequence. Completely forgot about the dude who betrayed them until he showed up. It's easy to say highlander did it better, but highlander has done it with 6 movies and 181 hour long episodes of TV. Think back to how it was with the first 2 highlander movies, and Old Guard is around the same spot. Maybe even better considering how awful Highlander 2 was.

Oh I needed to be more specific. The original Highlander movie did it better.

The Story was better. You had a mystical(Never explained) force that chose champions that would eventually lead to one, that either helped or doomed humanity. The portrayal of time was better represented with the back stories that included reasons why immortality was not all great and wonderful. It also of course explained the Highlander's past that would come around to the present.

You had better casting for the roles. Sean Connery was an awesome mentor. You had Christopher Lambert who did a great job of both portraying a brand new immortal followed up by a very experienced one. Clancy Brown was also great in his role as the villain.

The music....

Highlander 2 was a sad joke and should have never been made. It was like watching an SNL parody of the first movie.
