Does anyone else feel like this season is just off a bit? I know numerous people watching it and it feels like it has different writers, or lower budget, or something. It doesn’t seem as smart as previous seasons.

I think it's the opposite. It's all personal problems and the kids breaking out from under their dads wings. And there isn't some Heist/Murder B plot running throughout. The first seasons were way more ridiculous, the characters themselves are just tuned up because that's what always happens with shows. Just look at shit like Season 1 Dennis or Frank from Sunny and Season 12 Dennis or Frank. Caricatures of themselves.

This week's episode was the funniest of the bunch, but the ongoing "gag" of showing dicks is a bit past its welcome for sure.

The show is hilarious and well done. It gets way more interesting than the first episode.
The 4th and final season was weak but overall I loved the show.
Having recently rewatched Vice Principals I’d say it was even better than RG overall - it’s a super tight 2 seasons of 30ish minute episodes.
If you watched VP and don’t like it, you probably won’t like RG either, but I dunno how anyone wouldn’t like VP.
Eastbound and Down is admittedly ehhh.

If you're not a fan of McBride then it's not going to get much better for you. I'm a huge fan of his and this last season was terrible, I always think that he does a good job portraying terrible people and doing somewhat of a redemption arc with them even if they fuck up again and have to re-redeem themselves, they didn't even try to do that in the last season of Gemstones, every reward was completely unearned and it was all incredibly lazy writing, not much was funny and the series finale was the weakest out of all of his shows

I’d say within another 1-2 episodes. It’s really only the first episode that doesn’t pull you in more.
I rewatched all of it in the past couple of months so I remember the first episode being like ehhh.

I’d say even if you don’t like Gemstones - watch a few episodes of Vice Principals. Really, it’s quite genius to me. There isn’t a bad episode in the entire two seasons.
If you try it and don’t like it, then you just really don’t like Danny McBride.
It’s dark comedy with really heinous, irreverent shit that happens along with quite a bit of heart.
