Kurtzman is what happened. He got that woke shit into JJ Abrahms material, starting with little bits of the nu-trek (which coincidentally Kurtzman now runs) and then JJ had to out woke KK while working on Star Wars. Its always a race to the bottom. I am sure being on Wokeflix did not help matters, either.

And yeah speaking as someone who met the man in his own house back in the 90s, the Gaimen is weird and has completely bought into this SJW shit to the hilt. I am amazed Good Omens ended up being as good as it did (especially with how far off the cliff American Gods went at the very end), but he has lost the plot. The issue with Death is not the palette swap, because the Endless literally changed races at appropriate points in the source material. Its that it is a clear attempt to push an agenda that was in no way part of the original source, plus I would bet money that the actress playing death is not going to be good enough to work past that (like say a Thandy Newton or Idris Elba can) stupid diversity hire alarm that goes off in everyone's head who knows the source stuff. Especially so close on the heels of a complete disaster like the live action Beebop series.

I am sure its doing well, because Gaimen is or was a great writer and this material was him at his peak. But it could have been so much better, had they stuck to the source material and not tried to virtue point it up. That is the real frustrating part about all of this. So much wasted potential here.

Never read the comics, four episodes in and this is yet to grab me. I downloaded all of it in advance of a business trip and now I'm downloading the Elvis movie instead

What's funny is after they begged JJ to come back for RoS he already knew the score from TFA. He wanted to include all these kill-the-patriarchy violent scenes featuring Rey that Disney/KK had to step in on and order be cut from the movie. Based on what I know of the atrocious TFA writing process with JJ's partner Chris Terrio, I'm 99% sure that JJ was getting some payback during RoS by stuffing the woke so far up their noses it was painful, and seeing if it would actually make it into the movie. Of course, none of it made it into Rise of Skywalker, and was cut immediately after just 1 test screening. He did however manage to waste a ton of Disney's time and money. Hundreds of millions spent on garbage that Disney had to step in on and cut. The scenes were so ridiculous that it had to be JJ acting with malice rather than in good faith after having been spurned during the writing process of TFA.

I think you all getting way too focused on the woke shit. I tuned it out. The race switches didn't bother me, and most the gender swaps. The writing was strong, and it was very well-done IMO.

If you can't get past the woke/diversity shit, you won't be enjoying much for the next few years. It sucks. But thankfully it wasn't too distracting for this production.

You seem to think the only things there are to enjoy in the world are made by Hollywood (and/or vidya games). That must be a shitty existence.

No, some of us just have more time to devote to other things while Hollywood sinks itself.

Finished watching this. A lot of little or moderate changes but overall they kept to the plot from the comics. They set up a lot of future arcs from the comic too, which was surprising really. This isn't like 'American Gods' where the writers went and just randomly did new plots and such.

Look forward to more seasons.

last 2 episodes were stronger than the rest of the season, i almost just stopped watching the whole thing at episode 4 because it was getting so bad. can't really say i'm "glad" I finished, I thought the whole story was kinda lame and dumb and I don't really get all this Vortex shit or why Sandman acts like a Twilight vampire on quaaludes but whatever, Corinthian and cereal convention were hilarious.

basically i got monkeypox from watching this gay black bald bitch shit, wouldn't recommend

Hated most of the casting.

Apparently they weren't allowed to use the character John Constantine as someone else has the rights to it atm (JJ Abrams IIRC). Joanna Constantine is a decent replacement lore wise but I really didn't like the actor chosen to be her.

I mean, otherwise you're not gonna enjoy much over the next few years so I guess get used to it?

Fuck that, I didnt even read the comics but I learned the blackwashing lesson long ago. Any production that ignores the source material for casting will also ignore the source material for other, even more important things.

Its not a theory anymore, its advanced to the status of a Law of Nature.

I like it a lot as far as the story goes. I did like the first half of the show better, when he was looking for his stuff.

The gay shit was kinda too much though, was there even one normal couple in this thing? It added nothing and just felt stupid.

Downloaded the comic to read that as well and the TV Show was quite faithful to that at least as far as I got in 20 mins.

They are trying to condition us to make this shit normal. It's not normal. Return to older, better media. Or better yet spend less time on entertainment in your off hours.

There was definitely a lot of the gay stuff in the series. The problem is I don't remember offhand how "gay" the graphic novels were (arriving soon~). I -did- notice that effectively every villain was white, and every virtuous person was black. The only exception was the cereal convention where they just put in as many ethnicities as possible. But in the story? Every villain was some shade of white while every non-Dream protagonist was either gay or black. It would be different if it had some positive effect on the story, but it seemed in most cases like intentional to make sure the focus was on "dark/gay = good, light = bad" in almost all instances. Like white characters that weren't villains were intentionally written out or race/gender/sexuality swapped so that they weren't white CIS males/females.

I still enjoyed it and will watch another season because just about everything about it was pretty good, even with the race/sexuality/gender swaps. But it was very telling there was an underlying agenda.

I'll qualify that stance in that I lived in California for 41 years, and worked in hospitality for most of my adult life, so was exposed to lots of minorities and lesbians and gays because that's honestly where you find most employees who aren't doing the actual work. I have nothing against any race/ethnicity/sexuality/whatever - I'd prefer it wasn't smashed into my face constantly, but if it's tangential to whatever is going on in a given story I am ok with just going "yeah ok, lesbians. Fine; check my porn search history for verification." In -most- cases, the race/gender/sexuality wasn't the focal point of the situation in the show, it was just there.

And to be clear, unless you live in the Tenderloin or Atlanta, you will -never- see so many gay/interracial couples as outlined in the show in real life. That shit is purely for the collegiate indoctrination universities.

tl;dr:
I don't think the gender/race/sexuality swaps actually impacted the story or presentation, but it was clear they went and just swapped everyone who wasn't a villain with a gay/black/woman for the sake of points.

Well, to be fair; Constantine was kinda white AND gay...

At least they made it very clear that the show was fantasy. Maybe that's the REAL agenda (as you just outlined so nicely)!!
