I watched them last night.
Spoiler alert, it is pretty gay. Not the gayest thing ever but on a scale of having brunch to doing butt stuff, it definitely skips right over the mimosas. There's a lot of bi-stuff and a lot of extremely hot chicks in bikinis and underwear and straight sex. Mostly just a lot of sex between everyone.
But, understanding that Bret Easton Ellis is the central character and he's describing himself in high-school dealing with having a girlfriend vs. being gay, plus his usual style of everything sort of in excess, it is just hyper sex, wealth, vanity, obsession. It is fiction but he presents it as autobiographical. Everything I crave in life!
Having gotten the obvious out of the way 1st, I actually really liked it. As noted above it is definitely not an unbiased opinion because I am familiar with his work and have liked most of what Ryan Murphy has done. There is no doubt that 99.9% of the board will post they hate it and then maybe 5% will secretly keep watching.
The serial killer aspect of it is fine. Some mild gory stuff in the 1st two. We'll see where it goes. I actually have not read this novel, so no idea what the full story is.
The actor who plays Bret narrates most of it, a lot, and it is very much in a literary, detached, direct fragmented sentence type that feels right off a novel page. I loved it, it was so obviously written by Ellis with the stuff about his Mercedes, Ralph Lauren shirt, and hyper materialism. It almost goes too hard into some of the stuff that was shown in American Psycho (so anyone who has seen that and the intro with Patrick's morning routine) so you'll immediately know what to expect. But that is very on target for the way he writes.
I'll keep watching, think it is 2 episodes a week.
