Well then, to be clear, when I have been referring to "angry" people I am talking about people who behave in unreasonable and counter-productive ways. I don't concern myself with what people hold in their hearts, but rather if and how they lash out.
If I haven't made it clear yet by explicitly stating as much repeatedly, I have zero problem with people criticizing Sarkeesian. At all. I have shared several examples of criticism as well as offered my own and would happily do so again.
On the other hand, there is a gleeful ignorance displayed when people chastise her for closing comments on her videos. We have seen people like Sebudai openly admit that their goal is to mock, ridicule, humiliate and shame Sarkeesian into submission. They want to use their own brand of vigilante justice to punish her and show her the perceived error of her ways (conveniently skipping any kind of due process and acting as self-appointed judge, jury and executioner). Never mind for the moment that they genuinely believe they are doing the right thing. If Sark knows these people are actively seeking out opportunities to spread their bile, why the fuck WOULDN'T she close comments on her videos? "Oh, it must be because she doesn't like to hear people disagree with her." Yeah, or, if she knows people are gunning for her and have zero interest in rational debate, at the very least she can deny them an extra platform to do so from.

She does have defensible positions. Most of the things she has been accused of have already been explained/debunked. Unfortunately, the "liar, fraud, con artist" crowd have no interest in explanations. They want blood, and any and all information that doesn't suit their narrative is immediately dismissed without consideration. Hitman was not misrepresented, she was a gamer before she knew what a gamer was, she accidentally used someone's fan art, etc, etc. There are lots of explanations (usually corroborated by her own words), but try telling that to the pitchfork-wielding mob.
FFS, Fanaskin recently demonstrated the "throw random accusation, ignore response, throw next random accusation, repeat" technique of explaining his case. Do you honestly think Sarkeesian could just pop into her comments, say "Actually, this isn't accurate because X" and have the haters go "You know what? We didn't realize that. Our mistake"? Give me a friggin' break.

I tend to call or text my friends and family. I email business associates. I ditched Facebook when I realized it was primarily for seeing pictures of my acquaintances dinner or bathing in their unsolicited political opinions.

She is being put under zero stress or harm from this community, unlike what historical 'witches' faced.

I'm just using Rerolled as a microcosm of the reactions Sarkeesian has provoked at large. I'm not saying Rerolled is directly responsible for Sark closing her comments, but the attitudes on display here (and shared by many, many bigots) absolutely are. What, you think the bubble created by the "liar, fraud, con artist" crowd begins and ends around Rerolled? Give me a break.
And seeing as many of the accusations churned out by the anti-Sarks have retained their popularity to this day, and we STILL can't have a rational discussion about Sarkeesian without it devolving into personal attacks (on Rerolled and beyond), I would say the witch hunt was and continues to be spectacularly successful.

Anita Sarkeesian did not close her comments down because she was being called a liar, a fraud, or a con artist. She closed her comments down because of sexist attitudes on display there, that were often offensive to other commenters.

Arguing about toys (video games) making people angry is a really stupid thing to dedicate your life's work to in my opinion.
Oh no the toy marketed towards (although not marketed as exclusively for) men had big tits in it.
How many fucks do you think normal men gave when Magic Mike came out? And now goe about those who most people would agree are overly sensitive? Should I start a kick starter over it or try to create enough of a controversy over it that someone loses their job? Who really cares about this? Like can their life not go on if men rescue women in video games or anything is sexualized?
Most of this controversy, using my Magic Mike example, is a result of jealousy over physical appearance or portrayal... from people who I'd stamp as obvious candidates for complaining about such a thing. Then everyone else in ear shot tries to get on a moral high horse about how it makes other people feel bad (jealous) so it is a bad thing and aren't they so great for pointing that out.
