Fana: "I don't mind being shitty to people I think are wrong, Neither do you if you or them if you were to genuflect on it. it might offend them which is good cause it would cause them to develop their ideas in response."

No, Fanaskin. Being offended doesn't lead to ideas being developed. Being CHALLENGED leads to ideas being developed. Being offended gets the opposite response, it gets people to double down on their own beliefs and make it a battle instead of an exchange of ideas.

AngryGerbil: "It has ALWAYS been about Anita with Tan. He digresses from time to time, but this is his true passion. She is his cult leader. "

Well, I will readily admit that it's my favorite topic since it's the one with the least clear resolution. While I suppose it's somewhat possible Sarkeesian IS a con artist, the way the anti-Sarkies go about it has such a negative overall effect that I'm in a rare win-win situation here. I still maintain that I'm not arguing about Sarkeesian at all, that I'm arguing about the reactions to her work including those I've seen on this board.

I will also admit that she looks pretty hot in that popcorn gif.

yeah ok, thinking that there's always a clear distinction between those two is academic

Just like she wasn't talking about hitman at all! She was talking about cheese pizza! I finally get it!

Sixth and final part in the series:

Why Are You So Angry? Part 6: Talking to Angry Jack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfPAoz9GnWM

It was a little too "us vs them" for my liking, and I have no doubt some of you will be upset at his referencing the wage gap, but there are still some outstanding points in there.

Video by a dude with 8,000 subs who looks like my first year philosophy TA. Is it really worth watching? Really?

Now who's being obtuse, Doc?
Is it the cheese? No it's the pizza. Could be hitman? Or maybe it's the perverse pleasure that I derive from desecrating the unsuspecting bodies of virtual female characters. It's a rush streaming from a carefully concocted mix of sexual arousal, connected to the act of controlling and punishing representations of female sexuality.

I guess I still don't get it

Obviously I think so. He makes his points quite well and it's a decent perspective on the internet anger machine.

Clearly.

Likes a video series angry about portrayals and usage of female characters in video games that don't affect anyone who doesn't play it

Calls everyone who dislikes said video series "irrationally angry about topics that don't affect them"

Can't explain that

I have no idea who you're talking about, Cad, but it certainly isn't me. Nice straw men, tho.

If you don't mind me going off-topic, Doc, what's your favorite Mario game? For me, it's pretty hard to decide between Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World. On the one hand, Mario 3 took Mario back to what made him a name in the first place, but just super-sized everything. Bigger, more varied worlds, innovative powerups, TONS of secrets... it's an absolute masterpiece. On the other hand, SMW took advantage of new tech to push things even further, not just graphically but content-wise, adding new mechanics and establishing itself as reason alone to get a SNES. They both share the quality of being almost infinitely re-playable, since I can enjoy the shit out of either one to this day. I mean, yeah, Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were fantastic in their own right and had probably the most stellar soundtracks of any Mario games, but I think Mario is at his Marioest in 2D platformers, and I don't think they ever got better than SM3 and SMW. I'm assuming you're a fan based on your name and avatar, so I'd like your opinion.

Hmm Super Mario World tops my list. Honourable mentions to Super Mario Land 1&2, and Mario RPG.

Gotta be either SMW or RPG. SMW was the first game I ever actually owned as a kid so that probably influences it a lot. I did put a fuckload of hours into Super Mario Land 2 though. Great game, don't think I ever actually beat it though. I don't know if you wanted to talk spinoffs or just the main series but OG Mario Kart is of course a favorite and Mario Tennis on the 64 is still one of my favorite games ever. My brother and I still play it pretty much any time we get together.

I guess you guys are younger than I am. I still remember seeing screen shots of Mario 3 in a gaming mag before it came out and being psyched. Plus there was "The Wizard" (brilliant marketing), the Happy Meal toys, the best commercial EVER (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2zps0pzrxk), the Player's Guide from Nintendo Power (which I brought with me every day of summer camp and read religiously)... I think Mario 3 was the game that proved to me I wasn't wasting my time appreciating this stuff. It made the best case for video games as art before people generally even considered the question.

But if we're going to go into the non-platformer stuff too, Super Mario RPG was fucking incredible. It was a dream-team Square/Nintendo project that lived up to the expectations from both. It also innovated on turn-based battle in a way that resonates in the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series that continue to this day (and I can not recommend the Mario & Luigi games enough. If you've got the portable consoles, you've got to check them out. Dream Team in particular really impressed me and was a lot of fun.).

The original Mario Kart is near and dear to me. The multiplayer battle mode, as far as I'm concerned, never got better than the original's (despite a 2 player maximum). And the original Rainbow Road is my favorite MK track of all time (before they became bloated and dragged on too long).

The yellow Mario 3 Nintendo Power cover is forever burned into my brain. The Kevin Arnold hype was real.

Still, World was the superior game IMO. Yoshi was a game changer.

Khorum: "That'll get you heckled off-stage as a Presidential Candidate nowadays, you know. Here's Governor O'Malley getting booed off stage when he had the temerity to claim that "white lives matter, all lives matter"."

I'm not sure you now what "off stage" means.

Protesters shout candidates off stage: 'Black lives matter!'
~
"I know, I know . Let me talk a little bit . Black lives matter, white lives matter, all lives matter," O'Malley answered earning boos and shouts from the protesters and gasps from the rest of the audience.

He left the stage shortly thereafter.

Caliane: ""fair use" Aka, you are an artist, we both know you can't afford to sue me for stealing your work. I love how FullMcIntosh thinks the person doing the stealing is the one who decides what is and is not "fair use"."

Reminder:
- FF used the image believing it to be the property of the game's copyright holder (they didn't realize it was fan art when they found it).
- They were allowed to use the image under fair use. Nothing was "stolen".
- They took the image down ANYWAY.

Heck, the original artist's whole case was based on "Well why can't you SHOW ME that you're a non-profit?" Turns out the reason was "Because we don't want people doxxing us." Believe it or not, FF were the ones being reasonable during the entire exchange and ended up accommodating the artist despite having no obligation to do so, so I have no idea where all your butthurt is coming from.
