Yeah, the show has one of those implausible white male / black female lead couples. But you can't blame them very much, it's literally the rule in Hollywood. You are not permitted to make a TV show or movie without one in 2020, sorry, thats the rule. At least they did it in a plausible setting (adopted kids) instead of blatantly raceswapping a well known role.

And yeah, there are gays in the show. But Klaus is awesome enough he makes up for the mopey lesbian.

I think youd have to be looking for something to get offended by to see SJW in this show. Great, great show.

Isnt Klaus open to fucking any sex? I didn’t think he was strictly gay.

The thing that bothers me about Vanya is that she dresses just like Ellen Page. The initial things I saw of Vanya was her wearing a red dress and women’s clothes. No, Vanya is just Ellen Page with powers.

The SJW shit in this show would have been utter trash in current year. But in 1963? It’s fine.

The issue with Vanya isn't even some stupid lesbian issue, it's that her character literally does or means nothing for like 8 episodes because she can't even remember the narrative that she's a part of. Her falling in love with the retarded housewive is fine, but ultimately it's just wasted screen time.

Allison was a strict upgrade this season at least. I kinda hated her in the first season, but they made it work pretty well in the civil rights era here and were pretty realistic in dealing with the era.

This is classic Hollywood bullshit.

They got Ellen Page for this because she was a "name" and they thought they needed it to sell the show but it turns out she is, quite literally, the worst actor in the cast and was the only part of season 2 that was completely uninteresting. I wish they would just memory hole her somehow. Then this show would be perfect.
I don’t know how much a difference a different actress would make, Vanya is a pretty unlikeable character, she’s a mopey dishtowel most of the time. Like Allison her powers are Uber broken, so they have to come up with reasons for her not to use them.

Yeah, I like the way they took Allison though and her realization the her powers are a dangerous liability that will hollow her out as a human if she uses them.

It's not unique for a superhero, but it's a good fit. More power than she knows how to use. Maybe more power than even can be used responsibly.

The main weakness of Vanya is her power control is directly linked to her emotional state. Think about all the shit that made it hard to control her powers previously: "Father" who was a hard ass and constantly belittled her, then she gets put on meds which basically zonk her out emotionally and her siblings all think she is useless, being lied to/betrayed, tortured/antagonized. Contrast that with where she was able to control her powers: being responsible for others, protecting people she cares about, people caring about her (scene with Ben towards the end). You needed the contrast in how she was treated between seasons to kind of cement that.

That one revenge scene in the dinner was also a good view on the "cost" Allison was talking about. If her husband wasn't there to make her stop, she probably would have rumored that dinner owner until he died.

Question about Allison's power.... in the first episode we see her use it to literally "blow the minds" of three men.

If she told someone who was dying of stage 4 pancreatic cancer that she heard a rumor that they went into remission and had a full recovery... what would happen?

It's not that well defined by the show. And they play loose with it in action scenes.

It's basically supposed to be the power of persuasion, to the point of short term mind control or long term attitude control, but it's difficult to concoct a group action scene that uses that.

Her power isn't consistent. In season1 she uses it on her husband I think? Her kid, and her husband realizes that she did. So that's long term. But in S2 india girl mirrors her and the effect is short term and resistable. And yeah you could say that the mirror is imperfect and... that starts to get a little too comic book guy nerd argument.

So to answer the question: whatever the plot needed to happen is what would happen. It's more the idea of the thing with allison, that she has a power which could literally make her inhuman over time. Power corrupts, and that.

I figured Allison breaks free from Lila's version of her power because Lila switched powers or something.

In the intro scene I assumed that those versions of the UA had been fighting for a bit and gained a better handle on their powers. Only Vanya, Diego, and Five seemed to have had their powers grown by the end of the season.

Allison's power is a very stupid power because it's either completely inconsequential or absurdly overpowered. It's impossible to write it without twisting the viewer's perception into a pretzel and hoping they don't think too much about it.

It's the type of power that could end the show with her watching over a world full of drooling mind zombies she's put under her control.

Depends on how close they make it to the comics. Her power is basically reality manipulation. That scene shows in the show that makes it clear that it’s more than just mind control. So the degree to which her powers are busted is up to the writers.

The show intro seemed to have their powers jacked up. Like Luther takes a RPG to the back no problem, Allison can make shit happen that is physically impossible, Klaus is summoning ghost soldiers to wreck shit.

thats basically the comic version of their powers. only Vanya not needing an instrument for Telekinesis.

Just starting this, but its a huge departure from the comic plot at this point.

I have zero issue with Vanya the lesbian character. I have a huge issue with Ellen Page playing Vanya the lesbian character. They could seriously have gotten one of a thousand random pornhub lesbians who could act at least as well as Ellen and would be worth watching as a lesbian.

That being said we loved this season. As others have said Five, Diego and Klaus we the hits. I also like the Handler's daughter character.

Handler's daughter was oddly hot to me for some reason.

I think it's some deep-seeded crush inside my psyche from when I was 12 or whatever and that shitty Lost in Space movie came out that has forever made me attracted to that haircut and psycho eyes:

lol, almost thought that was the same actress for half a second. Handler's daughter seemed familiar to me, then I realized she was in that BBC show 'Humans' or w/e that had the rogue androids.

Actor that plays Five is still a teenager. Does a damn fine job considering his age.

Five does a good job and definitely is the glue that holds the show together.

Also that's Lacy Chabert when she was a kid.

Holy crap the Ben-Vanya scene from episode 9 just wrecked me. Ben is by far my favorite, his character, the idea of metaphorical "inner demons" in his powers, the mystery surrounding his death, and the actor playing him to be one of my favorite parts of this show. That actor is fucking killing it. Shout out to the actor playing Klaus nailing the emotion and feeling a ghost might have finally feeling human contact after 16 years.
