Welcome to open water. it's so numbingly empty (don't think about how deep it is below you, and how easy it would be to just drift downward) ... until it's not. In all honesty, just getting into the water with that marlin on the hook was already a stupid idea, it runs the wrong way and you've got all sorts of problems.
