Too many games?

I limit myself to:

1 PC game installed
1 console game disk

I can't buy a new PC game until I finish the current game. Same with the 1 console game, which I always trade in for the next game.

Seems to work and there is incentive to finish.
This is what I do for the most part. Typically I'll play an online game (MMO or FPS) and a single player game simultaneously, and rotate out the single player game once I beat it. I feel like I MUST first complete a game before moving on to something else. It's almost like reading a book halfway though, then starting another before you've finished the last. I can't do it. The feeling of leaving something unfinished before moving on irks me too much. RPG's, or any game longer than 20 hours, are a bad idea if you find yourself giving up on games too much. Play shorter games first, then move on to longer ones. Fortunately, there are so many good games that I basically never buy anything that I don't like and find too boring to finish.

Currently, I have Dark Souls and Dishonored on my games waiting to be played list and I might add maybe one more to that, but that's it. I'll take my time and knock em out one by one.

Count me in this club. And honestly, it's not just limited to us. Check other places for people asking this question, and it seems it's fairly common. For me at least, at the age of 30 now, I still WANT to play games. I WANT them to be a hobby. But then I get 20 minutes into another session with a game, and it just feels like I'm wasting my time and not having any fun at all. Bioshock Infinite was the last game to hold my attention, and I played that one every night until it was beat. It was not so much the gameplay but the story and atmosphere that held me. Before that... I don't know... Minecraft? That game had AMAZING value for me.

The latest game I'm trying out is AC4. I'm probably ten hours in or so and I just feel like it's a chore while everyone is heaping praise on it. *Shrug* Again, it's always that chore issue. Maybe it's that I feel overwhelmed lately when I see something like "Get X amount of spice and rum and get this upgrade!" and already I sort of think ahead about how it feels like farming. And then there's the islands where I just feel like assassinations are rinse and repeat, along with the chore of having to hit every chest and viewpoint. I LIKE the idea of something keeping me busy, but this doesn't feel all that fun for me.

Co-op is a huge motivator for me. I'll play games I don't really like, or keep playing MMO's that I'm done with, just because other friends are playing the same thing. Have done that with nearly every MMO out there, and Dota2 most recently. I sucked at Dota2, didn't get much better, but played it constantly, dragging my friends down, because they kept playing. I did them all a favor when I decided to just quit.

As much praise get's said about jRPG's, it's really hard for me to get into any of those. Just never been a fan, but games like Fire Emblem: Awakening for 3DS, or FFXIII-2 for Xbox, I start playing them and am extremely bored.

Someone said on here they like the sandbox games, and that's what they stick too. I can't stand sandbox games, as I want a very clear path of what I should be doing. I lasted 20 minutes into Skyrim, because I got to the first town, and it let me literally do anything I wanted, and go anywhere, and I was like wtf am I supposed to do? This sucks, and I quit. Haven't logged in since.

I wish more games gave me that awesome feeling. You play all night. Go to work the next day, and you spend all day thinking about the things you want to do when you get home, and browse the net all day to read about different parts of the game. Keep up 100% on the games thread here on Rerolled. Hasn't been a single game in a long long time that has kept my attention like that.

Kind of sad.

I think it's a good thing not to have a sense of urgency about too many games.

My problem is just patience, or lack thereof. Some nights I want to sit down for an Epic Long Civ V campaign or a few hours of Skyrim. Most nights I can't be bothered and just fire up Bejeweled on my Ipad or laze and read.

There is no game I've played in the last 5 years that really pushes me to play. There are a lot of fun games with good mechanics and stories, but at the end of the day it's still not that different than anything else I've been playing.

I've got much the same problem as the rest of you, extended to books and movies as well. I would need to literally be stranded on a deserted island with nothing but a working computer, my steam account, my Kindle, and a home theater system, for the rest of my life, to even stand a chance of getting through all the games, books, and movies I have never touched.

I don't know exactly why I don't finish a lot of games, but it seems that I take a break at some point and then just never finish. Someone mentioned Darksiders, and that is a perfect example. I loved that game. I played probably 75% of it, but then for whatever reason stopped, and now I can't even remember how to use all the different weapons without going through the tutorials again. I'm not going to do that, but I won't start Darksiders II without finishing, right? So I decided to just watch all the cut scenes on YouTube, because honestly that's all that was keeping me playing anyway. Of course, I still haven't ever started Darksiders II, and I just bought several different games during this sale because they looked cool (Sacrifice, Lego Marvel, Shadowrun, etc.), so who knows if I'll ever get to it.

The last game that I actually finished was Borderlands 2, but that was only because I played with a friend. I typically hate co-op games, but that one was awesome, as was the only other game I've "finished" recently, Orcs Must Die 2. I've actually played that one far, far more than just about any other game but Defense Grid. Which is another bad habit I have. It's really easy to sit down and just play a level of that to get a quick fix, but to sit down and play a Darksiders II, for example, I feel like I need a full evening in front of me, if that makes sense.

I hope some of this changes when several of these Kickstarter games finally come out though, because I've been dying for several of them (and supported them). Games like Torment, Wastelands 2, Grim Dawn, Divinity: Original Sin, Star Citizen, Ultima, etc. I am *hopeful* grab me so much that I play them to completion, or at least to exhaustion if some of them don't really "end" (Star Citizen, Ultima).

my main problem is that I basically pirated every single AAA title of the genres I enjoy over the last 5 years and now when I look through the Steam sales, all I see is titles I've already played, B titles I've never heard about and titles I have no interest in playing.

The only titles I managed to buy this year on the sales are Sir, you are being hunted, Outlast, RE5, and Chains of Satinav.

My new years resolution because of that is to only pirate EA and ubisoft games from this point and buy everything else on Steam on Christmas 2014
Every time I bought a new game at release day, I ended up being disappointed and didn't even finish it (Tomb Raider, Machine for Pigs for example, hard to justify full price purchases for games you don't touch until they're on a 75% Off sale :/

I tried to do that resolution last year of no buying a game until i finish one. It worked for a couple months and then a huge influx hit and that went right out the window

I'll try it again.. with the exception of anything that would be hard to find later.

I'll just add to Wish list instead of buying.

I plan on just not buying anything, I'm pretty sure my stash and whatever EA and Ubisoft releases will carry me through the year. The only exception might be Legacy of the Void.

So I currently have a Wii U, PS3 & PS4. Oh, and a Vita. Oh, and a standard Wii that I want to sell. Have it on craigslist with no luck as of yet. I've been using the Wii U exclusively to play through Mario Galaxy 2. I purchased this brand new and played the first level with Yoshi and it turned me off for whatever reason. Well, some 2-3 years later, I'm FINALLY giving it a chance. I'm 51 stars in as of right now. I plan on getting all 120 of Mario's stars before I put that away and play The Last of Us. Well... might be the last of us. I have a shit load of games that I haven't finished yet.

Bully for PS2 (wow, I bought this brand new and completely forgot about it, but saw it in the shelf the other day)
Kingdom Hearts 1.5. I'm about 25% through it right now, but I've played the main games previously. This is just a replay for the sake of PS3 stuff.
God of War. The newer one with HD graphics.
LA Noire. Not even sure if I really want to play this, but I did a while ago.. Hmm...
Metroid Prime 3 for Wii. I played a little bit of this, but then stopped for whatever reason. I'll get back into it.
Zelda for Wii. I played most of this, but encountered a bug in the dungeon before the end and stopped playing. I'll pick it up some time in the future.
Call of Duty: 4 (modern warfare 1). I have MW 2 & 3, so wanted to try 1. Found it on sale. Now I need to play it.
Metal Gear Solid. I've never played it, but found it. I'll have to give it a try at some point.
Call of Duty: Ghosts for PS4
Killzone for PS4
AC4 for PS4
Knack
Battlefield 4 for PS4
Need for Speed: Rivals for PS4. Ok, I have a shit load of PS4 games and I've turned all of them on and played around 30 minutes in each. But I'm putting all of them on hold until I get through my back log.
Uncharted for Vita and a few other games that were PSN+ freebies that I actually wanted to try.
Zelda Windwalker HD for Wii U
Elebits for Wii (played for about an hour, but never got very far in. My daughter would adore this game, so I want to play it for her sake).
Mario 3D World for Wii U
Mario & Luigi U
Wonderful 101 for Wii U.

Ok, this list is entirely from memory, but those are all of the games that I still need to play. Plus the various Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy and other various PS3 & PS4 games that I have on pre-order. South Park is on that list as well.

Fuck, this is going to take a while. But I'm not going to spend a DIME on new games until I get through these. That should keep my budget a little more under control. Plus, playing all of these games will keep me from wasting money by going out. So that'll help with the budget as well. I'm looking forward to it, but not at the same time, if that makes sense. I "want" to play 99% of these, and I know I'll like all of them. I just need to actually try it out. And I don't have unlimited time to play games due to the kid. I only play when she's napping or asleep for the night. It makes for some very slow progress in games. Oh well, it's for the best.

Done venting about myself. Post over!

Anyone else find themselves more likely to replay older games rather than invest time in new ones? Even with the cool stuff I've picked up from Steam I'm still probably going to play Chrono Trigger again next.

Goddamn I love that game.

Bought a Wii U on boxing day and a few games, ended up just playing Chrono Trigger and EQ Emu...
I should stop buying new shit.

Older games are what we are familiar with. Naturally we will have an attraction to these first because we know what to expect and for many, we already have established characters in these games.

Like others here my latest problem over the last year or so is I can't pass up a game deal. I've bought so many games on sale, when I've hardly played any of any that I buy.

I'm trying to force myself to work through the many single player titles that I have starting with the Batman series, but I keep getting drawn back into Diablo 3, or WoW, or some other game I've already invested time into.

I wish it was easier for me to break into and start playing a new game.

One of the most fantastic games I have played. But I am also a huge fan of the show Mob City.

Story and crime scene investigations were awesome fun, and it was a nice twist trying to figure out who was lying or stretching the truth based on their facial expressions - which were pretty spot on.

I couldn't get into any game on dosbox if I hadn't played it before Windows. Dosbox games I did play when I was young I was again able to play the shit out of, Civ1, Colonization, Railroad tycoon, wing commander, frontier elite 2, dark eye trilogy just to name a few. I'm was devastated I couldn't get Sid Meier's Pirates! to run again

anything I hadn't played back then, I didn't last 2 minutes through.

I'm home from work now and decided to go through my cabinet and pull out EVERY game that I haven't beaten yet. Fuck, it's a lot worse than I thought it was going to be.

1dlx.jpg

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 - I've played a good chunk of the main game. Traverse Town, Wonderland, Deep Jungle, & Agrabah are completed. Still need to play the Chain of Memories portion and watch the videos.
Little Big Planet - I loved the music in the demo. I bought this and played the first few levels but got turned off from all the stickers and shit. I need to just play the game and beat it, rather than worry about collecting all of the items.
Rayman Legends - Enjoyed Rayman for the original Wii, so picked this up. I realize it's not the same type of game, but should be enjoyable anyway. Plus, my wife can help out.
Super Mario 3D World - The entire reason I purchased a Wii U. Some people talked it up so I used the target discounts ($90 gift cards & 25% off) to make out well.
Zelda Wind Walker - Should be good. I'll get into it somewhere down the line.
Orange Box - I actually bought this just to play Portal, and I loved the shit out of Portal. It's worth doing a quick playthrough of Half-Life, though. People say it's good.
Gran Turismo 6 - I'll get to this eventually. I don't even know why I bought it. I've pretty much gotten away from driving games lately.
Batman Arkham City - I got this for Christmas last year. Got Arkham Asylum at the same time. Really enjoyed Asylum. Put City on the back burner. I'll crash through it soon enough.
Batman Arkham Origins - Pre ordered it for a few bonuses and the metal case. I'll play this when I finish City.
Metroid Prime - Yeah, I'll get to it. Not very high on my list of priorities though.
Katamari Damacy - Got this for the wife. It looked good. I should give it a shot some time.
Final Fantasy X2 - I played a good chunk of this when it first came out, but never beat it. Then I lost the old memory card that actually had the game data. I'll probably put this away and play the PS3 version when it comes in.
The Last of Us - I want to love this game. I've read so much praise for it and people saying it's the game of the console generation. I might play it when I finish Mario Galaxy 2.
Bioshock - Bought this a while ago. Played about 45 minutes and put it down. It's not a bad game, but I try to be a completionist for every game, which sucks. I'll try to rush through it and not pick everything up.
Zelda Twilight Princess - I stopped playing when I encountered a bug near the end. Yet I wiped the memory from my Wii in order to sell it. I'll play this eventually. Before I play Wind Walker, I guess.
We <3 Katamari - Got this for the wife also. I'll play it after I finish Damacy.
GTA: San Andreas - I started out enjoying this. Then I got to a point where it said I should work out and eat food and do some other shit. I decided to shelve it at that point. After playing GTA5, I have an interest in going back to giving a real chance at this game. I probably don't NEED to do anything but the missions.
Ni No Kuni - I've heard lots of praise about this. Got it on sale from an Amazon lightning deal. I'll play it soon.
inFAMOUS - Bought this release day. I collected all of the things that I could and did a few other things before actually playing the game. Then I got bored and put it away. I won't bother collecting anything when I play it for real.
Elebits - This game is adorable. Played it for about 2 hours now. I know my daughter will love it.
Bully - Bought this release day as well. I played it for like 30 minutes then stopped. I don't really remember much about it, but I'll play it eventually.
Gran Turismo 4 - I didn't even know I had this. Oh well, no loss there.
Call of Duty 4 - Enjoyed Modern Warfare 2 & 3. This is the precursor for them. I'll play it soonish.
L.A. Noire - I only played the first and second levels, then stopped. I don't even remember why. I'll have to give it another shot.
Okami - Mainly got this for my wife. I'm sure she'll enjoy it at some point.
Parasite Eve - I've been sitting on this for some 15 years now. I'll have to play it at some point... right?
Metal Gear - I've only had this for about 3 years. I keep meaning to give it a try. It'll happen.
Oblivion - Bought this a few years ago. I played a little bit, but then lost interest. I really loved Skyrim, so I'll have to give it another shot.
God of War III - I don't know why I never tried it. Maybe because I hadn't yet completed the first 2.
GTA4 - Only played for about 40 minutes, then stopped. I'll give it another try some time.
Super Mario Brothers U - This is low on my list, but I'll get to it eventually.

Jesus christ, I'm screwed. That's like a year+ of gaming.

I still want to play Tomb Raider & Bioshock Infinite. But I forgot to list my 6 PS4 games... I haven't beaten any of them.

Knack, Killzone, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed & Need for Speed. Oh, and the 2 PSN+ games.
