If I remember correctly the big and somewhat serious thread on the subject, it's not that uncommon for male to female transsexual to have dabbled in body building before recognizing their condition and transitioning. Something to do with body image and taking control of your own body or something.

Basically. Dissatisfaction with body image, is pretty universal among trans.. Denial or attempts to "fit in" often leads to over compensating in the "male" direction for a while. Many don't really key into what exactly is wrong for a while. "I need to cut off my penis" is rarely anyone first guess to what is the cause of their depression/social problems, etc.
