The thread on Empornium mentioned it being down for a couple months now. No clue if that is true or not.

I haven't downloaded or had a "library" of music in ages. Who doesn't stream these days? $10 a month for Spotify premium is pretty damn hard to beat. Not to mention I have discovered tons of songs and bands I never would have without it.

Fair enough.. but I mentioned the premium service because you can get 320kb/s "high quality" streaming with that. It's pretty damn hard to distinguish from lossless at that rate. If you really have a hard-on for truly lossless audio, you can sub to Tidal. (uncompressed FLAC streaming)

I have a data limit on my phone plan so I prefer not to stream when I can. Do most people have unlimited data these days? I'm still on my parent's plan since dad's work pays for it so I'm not sure how out dated our plan actually is haha

You can also download your playlists when you are home on WiFi too. It isn't restricted to streaming only. (Spotify)

Some of us actually want collections of music, full albums, live soundboard releases, rare stuff and stuff that is no longer published.

Anyway, there's some indication that waffles might be coming back. I had a decent ratio there still so it would be something at least.

tl;dr: I miss What.

This one hit me hard. I realize everyone is switching to streaming, but there's some stuff out there that just isn't on streaming services. I know that sounds pretentious, but I'm talking about things like... Alan Lomax recordings of rural folk songs in the deep south. Chain gang work songs. Random world stuff like Turkish Electro. There were small little communities of people who gathered around the common core of these things and shared them with each other via collages.

I know it seems arbitrary to mourn for something so obscure and that so few people want. But truth be told, these genres didn't have communities or real avenues to even be discovered before then. I was part of a group who ripped cassette-only releases for giggles. One night, completely drunk, I started the Deutsche Grammophon collage which ended up being in the top ten largest collages--I only added the first few hundred albums and the community did the rest. Streaming services are an algorithm. Incredibly good ones, but machines nevertheless. What had heart.

If anyone finds a replacement, do tell.

Anyone have invites for xanax? Looked like they filled the open registration already.

Also seems that waffles is definitely coming back, just a matter of when they can pay their bills.

PassTheHeadphones looks promising. Haven't gotten an invite to either though, even though I've requested them via the official invite forums on a couple of trackers, as I didn't check the boards for a day and apparently that's all it takes to be late to the party. If anyone has invites to either I'd be grateful, and I've proven my seeding ability many times over in this thread.

Fuck Waffles though, bunch of slack-jawed faggots!

Same one or two days I don't follow it and they do open invites. It seems like such a pain in the ass now. I'm more at a loss with music discovery. But I didn't know about the streaming sites so they seem good enough. They are driving me to legal sites so funny.

PTH has an official automated invite system on BTN and PTP (if you qualify for the necessary forums). It worked flawlessly for me, so I'm in, and the site looks exactly like What.CD, and apparently has 100,000 perfect FLACs already, according to the news item from 3 days ago that was on the first page. So it might be the next big thing, here's hoping.

I'll try to keep an eye out for any freeleeches and post about it, because freeleech was the best way to get going on a very difficult tracker like What. If anyone else sees one, please say something.

There's some packs on IPT like "NYT best sci-fi books" or "reddit's favorite sci-fi books". look around for a bit.
