It wasn’t suppose to be a cliffhanger ending. Iger cancelled the show so it didn’t get to wrap up.
Yeah calling it a cliffhanger only makes sense from 25 years in the future. That was the ending. The ending of s2 was Lynch's somewhat polite fuck you to the network. Still a heck of an bold ending to a series that was mega popular at the time. Then FWWM came out afterwards once he had regained his chill. I think the actual shame of not being able to be in s3 was Bowie, but he was nearly dead? when they were going to start filming. At least they got Albert before he croaked, he was always one of my favs in show, aside from Lynch's Gordon.

As far as S3 goes, Belushi and his entourage of muscle and bimbos needed a spin off. That whole group was great.

This was still filming when Bowie died and he was busy doing Blackstar. He was probably too sick to travel internationally at that point anyways.

You sadly don't get to see much of Coop as Coop, and Harry not returning was a major bummer. Aside from that S3 is pretty goddamn amazing. I still want to buy yet another box set just to get the 4k versions of the pilot, and the ep 8 of s3.
S3 is just shot and scored amazingly. if yer a Lynch fan, it was worth it just to let him have it's way with the show relatively unconstrained by the suits. I do remember there was a kerfuffle about monies before it actually came out, but other than maybe a full 25 eps, I'm not sure what else could have been done.

Episode 8 must be the one that people were hugely into. Just saw it. Wild episode. I don't know what the hell was going on for 70% of it, or what all of those parts had to do with anything, but it was visually-stunning the same way 2001: A Space Odyssey was.

Tammy is so goddamn hot. I need more of her sauntering around on my TV screen.

Feels bad knowing Albert here died soon after this. He doesn't look so good in most of what I've seen.

Ahh you should rejoice that we got to see more of peak Albert!
The 2001 comparison is spot on, when i watched it air i was pretty giddy to see his take on the slit scan sequence in 2001. i'm not sure if that was an episode "people" were really into, but the box set offers that episode in 4k, so kinda worth.

But being a film dork- i was obviously into it. Narratively that sequence both explains a ton and nothing at all. You can piece meaning together in Lynch's stuff. But you'll never get a direct answer. Just enjoy the show. There are rabbit holes of theory to go into for sure, but even there you'll have to make up how it all works in your own head.
The extra scenes from the movie are tantalizing as heck. But we aren't gonna talk about Judy
