Over the past few decades, advancing technology has led gamemakers to believe they could upstage Hollywood at visual storytelling by creating "interactive movies", but the nature of games is at direct odds with this concept. Films require authorial control, while games require player agency, and each suffers at the hands of the other.

The guy in the video blames it on retarded players like this Phil clown, but I think shitty modern games are mostly a consequence of this industry focus on narrative-centric design. The vast majority of games made by AAA studios fall into this category and with the staggering sums of money that go into these productions you can be damned sure they're going to use every trick in the book to tell their B-movie quality stories the way they want them told.

Apparently, most players don't seem to mind this and I think their expectations have been molded over time to even prefer it. At any rate, they keep buying the games so that's why we can't have nice things.

I have no problem with narrative focused design so long as the narrative gets a good. Just like not every movie can tell a good story, not game can tell a good story. In movies we forgive a shitty story if the movie is otherwise entertaining and the same holds true for games

Funny thing about Gura is when she "allegedly" was Senzawa she would be drunk and shit all the time. Although she has the most loli of the avatars she doesn't do shit to sexualize herself at all. She's just quirky and is the most likely to make the lewd jokes and stuff. Apparently she is smol in real life, not just in vtuber form.

Watson grew on me, but amongst her gen mates she is the techie one. Like she spent all her Hololive money on making a 3d VR home studio and working on backend stuff for herself and the girls.

I agree on Kiara, I think she at least leans on the cuter side. I found her kind of annoying at first, but she has grown on me. She is definitely the most "idol" of them though.

Calli is probably my favorite, just because she seems like she would be awesome to hang with.

I know the least about Ina, just haven't caught much of her. She seems alright though.

I mainly just watch clips of all of them when they show up. I haven't really looked much into the JP of the Vtubers, besides Henya(Pikamee) of Vshojo.

Twitch now allowing you to protect them by adding filters to your channel so you can do certain stuff like get drunk on stream, smoke weed, talk about to 10 pairs of titties, etc etc. Obviously they're challenging Kick's one thing they got going for them. Open degeneracy.

Watson is almost doubling as hololive tech staff in the US. Always helping the others with audio problems and set up all that vrchat stuff they did. I think she arranged the meetups they did in the states.

Her and Gura have great chemistry too. Always fun when they play a coop game.

Do you know why I know that Twitch as a company are hypocritical POS's? I watch a few OG MTG streamers, two LoL TFT ones, an OG Binding of Isaac streamer, Lex Veldhius (poker), and a variety of smaller retro and speedrunners. No female streamers because they are just not very entertaining (or just absent) in the content I consume. So what is the first and most visible stream recommendation from Twitch? Body painter. My brain registered it as porn for a second and I had to look again to confirm she had pasties on. All this while they quibble about the 'morality' of gambling streams or toxic chat that says mean words. Fuck them and I wish every one of their competitors continued growth and success.

you can pay money and/or get your viewers to spend channel points to Boost you to appear there. It's an algorithm heavily weighted towards those who are paying part of their revenue to get boosted.
