I'm afraid of getting betamaxed. I'm gonna wait to see what gets the most backing from the porn industry and go with that.
I wasn't around for the betamax days, but you can rest assured that no matter who wins, the CV1 will be obsolete in a year or two. It's unlikely that the VIVE's first release will make it obsolete though.

God damn it you're right.

Yeah, really hard to not order one when my friends are still just biting the bullet... but yeah, I told myself the max I was willing to go was $600, really expecting it to be quite a bit less.

Now, I'm thinking I'll wait and see what happens at CES this week. Bummer.

$630 with shipping. Way more than I thought.
I'll stick with the Samsung VR then, and wait until the Vive is launched. That price is ridiculous, considering I need a new PC also. And they still haven't determined what PC's will work. Finally, the actual physical cost is less than $30, I believe.

Wow I was wrong on price, I really thought they would take a loss on this thing just to get an decent user base. I was expecting $399.

ordered. I might cancel though. I put $500 as my definite yes and $700 as my definite no.

HTC said the Vive was expected to be priced a little higher than the rest didn't they? With this context there's probably little reason to expect the PSVR to be at 499+ too, w/ it being a helmet and PU.

da fuq there is no way the cost is $30, the two OLED screens alone are like $400. They said CV1 is being sold at more or less cost. In a year for sure prices will come down. I ordered, 50% likely will cancel though just rather be in a position to decide a month from now than wish I had ordered a month from now.

They charge shipping too and taxes in some states ($50 in TX apparently)

The pre order screen said my ASUS couldn't run it. It suggested I buy an Alienware. So that's 1,199 for the system, 99 for the keyboard and 699 for the screen, and then 630 for the system? I'm enjoying my $99 Samsung VR option.

I don't think prices will come down. I think $600 will be the standard. At least $500.

The tech will improve over the next five years, demanding the maintenence of that price. Once we get retina level display, eye tracking etc, it'll become commoditized.

I was comparing that to Google cardboard as an alternative at $30, or the VR at 99. Of course, that's if you already have a smartphone.

Ordered, but might cancel in 30 days. That is a lot of money to be able turn my head.

I'm weak, I just bought one. My walk away price apparently wasn't my walk away.
Pre ordered it too. I didn't have a walk away price as my side business has been good to me. I look forward to watching how this influences the PC builders market/industry

I think Valve has a real chance to masterstroke OVR here. If they sold VIVEs at a loss at like, $400 it'd be very hard not to cancel my pre-order.

HTC doesn't have the spare cash to sell at a loss, but Valve does. Valve isn't that kind of business though. They just care that OVR sells their shit on steam.
