Yeah aside some of the balance issues it has, its def one of my favorite crpg. On my 3rd play right now. Cant wait for the other Warhammer game they have coming up.

I think it is one of my favorite CRPG's because of how faithful it is to the in-universe lore. There is just so much to like about WH40k and this game goes hard into all of it. Like when the killer of the former Rogue Trader was revealed it was only surprising until you though about it for about half a second and then went 'totally accurate assessment.'

Hell, I went with the Iconoclast ending because I do it in every RPG, and that is usually the chaotic good you're a hero ending..... In this it sets the goddamn Imperium against you. I had almost the same reaction as I did for the murderer reveal; one second of shock, then appreciation that they knew the world and trusted it enough to make THAT the ending.

Dark Heretic could be the buggiest, most unbalanced game of all time and I will probably love it because of the story and lore.

Just got this.

Without spoiling anything, should I get all the DLC from the start? Looks like this Seasons Pass has every released DLC.

Yes, it adds about 20-40 hours of content. More about the inner ship workings, 2 new companions along with quests involved. I dont see why you would not get the entire experience at the onset.

Here is a good spreadsheet about builds along with video links. Scroll to the side to see even more.

there are others of course on youtube...

Of course you dont have to follow any of this shit. And its not as convoluted as the pathfinder stuff, simpler for sure. But as with any game like this there is shitty skill sand there is powerful ones. And me not being at all attuned to any of these PnP systems at all, some guide was necessary so I didnt end up with a team of bricks.

I'm about to start playing this too. Of those 578 builds, what is the most overpowered shit?

i say yes to the DLC's immediately.

base game is a bit lacking on class options. (have a bad habit of overlapping with companions.)
both add more.

void shadows adds a TON of flavor and lore for the ship. adds places to visit on it, outside the bridge and your quarters.
Lex adds a ton of lore around Theadora the previous RT, and admistratum, and arbities.

This dude just wrecks shit. And its 1.3 build but it didnt get touched for 1.4 So to my knowledge still the same. Thats what my main is on this play through.

Cassia is still powerful since she gives someone an extra turn and her buffs/debuffs are powerful too. But she got gutted throughout all the patches. Prob like 1/2 the power of what she was at beginning.

I played a pyrokinetic tank, warrior into vanguard. This was before any DLC but after all of the major nerfs. I'm sure there are no shortage of builds that do more damage but my damage was still extremely good and I was damn near invulnerable. I'm pretty sure I ended up raising the difficulty to hard because daring was just too easy and it probably could have handled unfair if I were careful but after my experience with Unfair in WotR I wasn't interested in trying it.

There are multiple advantages to having a very tanky MC. For starters you have a bit more freedom with party composition because you don't have to bring Abelard or Heinrix, but you still contribute enough as a damage dealer that you aren't crippling yourself if you do bring one of them (In fact I ran most of the game with two tanks). Also there are a couple points throughout the game where you end up in a fight solo (either temporarily or for the entire fight) and being tanky makes a pretty big difference on the difficulty of those sections. I feel like it's advantageous to have a psyker MC as well because the MC can do so much more with it than the psyker party members.

most of the companions can be made to be insanely OP.

for the player, theres multiple op builds. most involve pysker origin. psyker>officer or psker>bladedancer>excutioner.

crpgbros builds are solid. but do look a bit outdated.

I mean, they are 1.3 updates. So no 1.4 stuff, but still solid as fuck. IF you want 1.4 go for the spreadsheet stuff which is more updated for 1.4 and the new class/subclass builds with shields and shotty. I find that the 1.4 companion is good enough to get a taste of the shotty/shield/doggo stuff although you have to wait till mid act 2 to get him. I also made Abelard into a shield tank with the new hotness bringing him into arch militant for the versatility shenanigance and the extra attacks, which works quite well with melee/shield stuff. Abelard fucks now, lol.

the spreadsheet has a Jae with servo skull build that does some nice shit. More like a support/heal/dps build.

I also like having an old school Yrliet sniper in my party. She just chunks peeps from the back hardly ever being touched. And her super has her chunking 3+ peeps.

Considering 2 more dlcs are coming you could also wait for game of the year edition.
