Holy fuck. They have plastic sets with like 15 models that are 180 dollars?

I was looking at good parachute points to get into the game and -plastic- fucking models are like 5-10 dollars each, at a minimum?

Talk about audience capture. Fuck.

I definitely need to look more into local groups before I spend a single dollar. Are they actively trying to keep their playerbase to the same grognards that have been playing for 20+ years instead of expanding the base?

Edit - maybe I'm just elderly or something, but I am positive you would get pewter/composite figures for like 15 bucks if they were a special character or something with extra detail. 10 dollars for a plastic model (regardless of manufacturing costs; plastic is plastic) on a per model basis is basically thievery. Jesus christ I am just floored by modern warhammer prices. I legit thought when I saw the prices that they came prepainted and that would explain the price expansion.
You missed the pewter era by like 30 years. They were expensive even back then, absurd now tho. When we first started playing, my friend used to just shoplift the delicious lead, then later pewter minis. Which were like $5-10 bux for a blister pack of 2-3 normal units. Or 1 of the captain/hero tier units. When the shitty plastic models came out, they were like $15, but you at least got like a whole squad of units for the price. (prices are probably a bit inaccurate. wayy too long ago)
The starter box sets were always a big outlay too. Nowadays the plastic models are WAY better than the old metal sculpts. Still outrageously priced, but also somehow a deal compared to say Kingdom Death.

I was there =| I saw the blister prices. Blood Angels heroes were like 12 dollars for a pewter fig. Dante, Mephiston, the fucking cupbearer guy Calistius or whatever. A Landraider was like 35? Maybe?

Blows my mind how much the prices have inflated.

I remember getting two pewter guys for like 8.99 or something back in the day.

You aren’t wrong. Prices are 2-3 times higher than the 90s.

Maybe my 4 full armies should just go on EBay. I’m too old and busy to play.

I mean if you want to purchase a yacht with the proceeds. I'm kicking myself for just giving away a small tau army of unpainted minis still in boxes/blisters. It was like 2400 points or something in 2003 terms; think it ran me like maybe 300 for everything? That same army would be well over a grand now. Christ almighty haha.

I'm never selling my shit but I wonder how much it's going to go up in eBay value after the show and movie comes out. I bet commission artists will be booked up.

My thing is for the time it takes, I wouldn't feel good charging for a plastic mini what I do.

The good money maker for time investment I thought of was selling handfuls of painted purity seals. Once you get it all lined up, you could rock out enough of those to cover the demand out there.

Another is selling "ready to go" all black with 3 color marines (silver edging, gold chest, red eyes, gun) because ppl can easily slide transfers on/paint shoulder edges for iron hands, raven guard, death watch, black templars. There's people out there selling piles of these transfer sheets too, and I've had them sell out then have to get back to me. Again, pre-show/movie.

Seems like something you could crank out when this goes mainstream for some side bux to buy more for yourself without feeling guilty if you know what I mean.

40k and GW in general are kind of dead to me now. Haven’t been inspired to buy, paint, or play in years. Their political crap and their prices are just a huge turnoff.

I remember buying a starter box for the high elves in warhammer. It had enough models to field a 2k points army and some reserve units so you could change the army up.

Had silverhelms, soldiers, archers, 1-2? bolt throwers, a char on a griffon and a bunch of other stuff, besides the most basic troops every model was metal, and it was like 150$. Must have been under 2$ / model on average.

That was 30 years ago.

Current prices are beyond retarded. Also back then you could buy badly painted metal models and strip the paint, so there was a decent 2nd hand market for those.

Fuck GW. Over the years they have started to market their plastic shit like Hermes products, including the hate towards customers.

Yeah I am at a point where I don't want more quality for more money. The models are already so insanely intricate if you get them under a lense and try to paint all the details.

It's an immense undertaking imo to keep 2 armies up to date and looking good.

The point shifts can lead to massive army reworks which has happened a bit. The points nerf to Voidraven bomber was ultra oof seeing as I have 2 done.

I have some razor wing flocks and a tech marine to finish. It has been fairly never ending since I started but I'm not a speed assembler/painter or anything.

But that's their whole business model. They create that change in the meta so you have to buy more shit instead of just playing what you think is cool.
