Watched this last night. While the way they told the story was cool from matching up perspectives of what happened per person involved, the entire thing was predictable as hell.

I knew it was aa witch as soon as I saw the house or even before when I saw how the kids ran. Kill the witch and everything should go back to normal except the longer you were under the spell the more brain dead one became and maybe took a lot longer to wear off.

If you can get it for free sure. Not too sure why this is being all gummed up as amazing. It's normal horror fare.

Perfectly creepy job done on the witch's hair and makeup. Wong's bug-eyed run was also suitably creepy. The rest was just meh.

Really enjoyed this, also a big fan of the director now after watching his interview with Sean Fennessey.

Longlegs felt like a really good X Files episode
Yeah I really wanted to love longlegs but that's all it was. It was waaaaay over hyped too.

Weapons was great. I had a pretty good idea what was going on at a certain point, but I thought it was really well done. The ending sequence was awesome.

I agree probably not rewatchable. But I'm glad I did. I think it does deserve it's praise.

I liked the first half but I feel it changed for the worse after half the movie, the mystery was pretty much gone.

There's not a lot out there that I'd personally consider as rewatchable. If a movie can get me to watch it twice it's prob as close as it'll get to rewatchable in my books.

I'm trying to think of movies from the past 15 years that I've watched more than three times. Margin Call for some reason is up there. Sicario. Hateful 8. Fury road. Snowpiercer

Okay maybe there are a lot I watch over and over

I've never watched margin call, but I have rewatched the other ones you mentioned. They're all great films, and sometimes yours in the mood for a particular type of movie, I can always fall back on the old reliables.

Haven't read the thread yet, but maybe I just don't get horror movies?

It was fine. The premise was interesting. But especially during Alex's story, it just seemed to really drag. In the end it just kind of seems like a movie happened, but nothing was super memorable about it. For some reason it gave me Thinner vibes (although I barely remember that movie).

In 6 months I probably won't even remember what happened in this. I don't get the hype.

Edit: Oh, I will say, at a certain point I wasn't sure if this was just supposed to be a comedy and not a horror. I mean, it wasn't laugh out loud funny, but maybe just preposterous funny? I dunno, weird movie.

Also, the running in a straight line thing kind of fucked the movie a bit for me. Because when they show it happening at the very beginning, it's obvious they're running in a straight line. And any cop would've seen that and figured out they all converged onto a single spot. Having it be some big reveal was awful, especially for someone who grew up watching older movies where you tried to figure out what's going on and there are misdirections. This was just straight lazy there.

Unfortunately, it leads to a massive continuity error when you see it happen from Alex's perspective because you see them running down the street and not in a straight line.

It does an incredible job conveying information to the viewer with images, which should just be the role of a movie but that trait has fallen by the wayside as we ventured further into spectacle movie making. Don't cross the salt, why don't you cross the salt, the movie shows you why. The scene where the cop returns home and every bit of information that you need to figure out what is going on is in two frames and no words need to be spoken to do so, that's a well crafted scene. This, and Longlegs, are good examples of people knowing how to make a movie and showing, not telling, you what you need to know

I think that Longlegs did a better job of show but don't tell but this had a better story and a more relatable style of pacing. The suspense in Longlegs is so acute and that allows it to ratchet up incredibly quickly but in order to make things progress it also has to drop back down considerably or else you won't have anywhere to go for the finale. This takes a different approach and gives rises up to plateaus then adds the perspective changes to prepare you for the next ramp up.

I think that Longlegs is a better film from a technical standpoint but this is better all around. Longlegs was ablet to make empty doorways and rooms unsettling with deliberate camera movements and focus while this was so well made in other aspects that it was able to get away with what it decided to do with the finale, which was also great.

I mean, sure, it's a very well crafted and shot film. And I'm not saying it was bad. I was interested for basically the entire length, outside of like I said Alex's chapter which for some reason didn't work as well for me. Probably because it did linger a lot longer than the rest of it. Oddly it seems like most liked it the best.

I just wouldn't call it an amazing movie. I don't get the hype. It's not a must watch movie at all. But I also don't think most people will regret watching it.

It's fine.

Think the point was the destination was a straight line, not their entire path.
