I don't really pay much attention to national weather anymore. I didn't realize Texas was getting butt fucked by snow/ice.

Seems like it's basically the entire country outside of the gulf coast.

I don't think it is , yet. Looks like the panhandle might be, just now reaching DFW. Nothing down here in east, TX.

Some funny names.

The last one a few years ago I was watching a stream of morning traffic on I-20 in Dallas just as it was getting daylight. People going 80mph and a semi hit the blace ice on the backside of an overpass. Shocked I say, shocked lol. I forget how many cars got piled up, lots.

The panic here in Houston is ridiculous. People are still completely shell shocked from the Great Freeze of 2021. Stores, even HEB, are out of everything.

The really bad news is supposedly there is another one coming next weekend, although how bad yet to be seen.

People are remarkably chill here. Just got back from the grocery, no empty shelves. Maybe a bit more picked over than usual, but nothing crazy. Roads are shit, and everyone is driving accordingly. Traffic is slow, but accidents are sparse. Just the usual idiots being idiots. Also, when it's super cold like this the general crime rate goes down. People don't leave their houses. Domestic violence calls go way up, though.

My pond is frozen over. We're skating for hours at a time. I rigged up a sump pump so I can flood the ice when we're done skating for the day. I cover the rink with water and it's frozen about 15 minutes later.

If it gets down to 6 here next week that's pretty cold for this area. In 1989 it got down to 5-6 in Baton Rouge and I'm 300 miles northwest of there. I remember 1989 because Exxon tried to empty an oil tank. It has been in the 40s the day before. That oil hadn't cooled off enough and the valve failed due to the temp differential. Blew down a whole block of houses and then some.

Here in southwest MS 3" of rain in the last 6 hours. Still mid 40's.

Edit - 2am and it stopped raining, NOAA says it's 67 here. I thought no fucking way. Got up and went and looked at the outdoor thermometer. Yup 67. Went outside to be sure I wasn't dreaming. The forecast for 6am is 40, 32 at noon.

Radar shows it sleeting in Natchez, MS which is 73 miles away (I just looked it up). That is some crazy shit, it's warmed up 20 degrees in the last 6 hours. The town 20 miles north weather says it's 45 there now and 67 here.

Funny part is the forecast high for Sunday is 40. Here it is Sunday at 2am and it's 67 fucking degrees.

EDIT -2. 3:15 am and the power is out and it's 70 fucking degrees. Shit is beyond nuts. Radar still shows it sleeting less than 60 miles away. Thankfully may parents have a whole house diesel generator.
