Ahem. Fuck cold weather. I moved to Houston thinking I was going to get away from this dumb shit. Now I want Trump to annex Mexico as a territory so that I can live further South and never have to deal with this dumb shit. Give me 100 degrees F and 100% humidity over this dumb shit.

I think they draw out of a hat for the weather, multiple times a day. Earlier it was forecst 50 for a high. It barely broke freezing. Then later the foecast overnight was 25, now it says 10. The forecast for tomorrow high is 54 hich I'm guessing it will top out at around 30 or less now.

I had that happen a few years ago when I was getting ready to sell my old house. A branch ended up nailing my detached garage. When I went over to inspect it, it was like out of a movie - every 5-10s another branch would come down somewhere in the neighborhood. In retrospect, it was probably really dumb to be outside at all that day.

Then, like out of a different movie, some of the shadiest dudes I've ever seen in my life started coming out of the woodwork offering to remove and cut up the branch. Thankfully my neighbor already had a legit business coming over to quote, so, I piggybacked on that. Since I was going to make an insurance claim, I wanted some more qualifications than: "has chainsaw".
We've had that over the years with the various floods and hurricanes. It's like carnies that follow storms, doing roofs and cleaning up trees/limbs etc. Some are OK and the others grifters following the money and looking for elderly and others to make them marks. We've got three or four tree folks on speed dial, though.

This is your once every 3-4 year burst of Winter™. You'll get a sticker in the mail and then you should be good until Canada gets full again. I agree much prefer heat to cold. I was never bothered at football practice 95 degree/90% humidity where the practice field was covered in rice hulls and they drained a swamp to build the high school a few miles from the Sabine River. You start talking about temps in the 20s I start wishing there was more places in Texas further south and west of what I have always called the Green Line, that separates green East Texas from brown West Texas.

Down to single digits for a short while 100 miles north of New Orleans. Up to about 40 already by noon.
Yeah, in Dallas it looks like we're in the "warm enough to start melting shit during they day, back into the 20's at night to refreeze it" cycle until the weekend if I am to believe "big weather".

My team where I work had planned our first in person meeting in three months for this week. I was going to drive down from Dallas to San Antonio for it Monday, but noped out. Figured I'd wait and see about today. Today the cameras on the highways looked clear enough to try to make it. I get 30 minutes south of Dallas and my boss calls me "Over half the team had their flights cancelled on them, you don't need to drive down if you don't want to, I'll shoot you a zoom link for things".

I was rustled for the 2-3 minutes it took me to get to an overpass I could use to turn around, but within an hour I was back home and in a robe...

Overall it wasn't that bad. Most areas on 35 were running n-1 lanes once outside town, and inside town all lanes were essentially clear for use.

Going to have to clear my driveway off tomorrow I think. FML. Shits like 2" of ice. Can get out of it easily enough but with a slight slope I doubt me/wife would be able to get back up it.
