Not really known for tornadoes where I live, but with the 5% risk in my area today, I got a hunch and decided to try and go for my first storm chase today.

Got a hunch on a cell that was pulling ahead of a line of storms coming from western MD. Was on a track pretty much straight towards Winchester, VA so I hauled down there and setup just south of where it was tracking. 5min later, it got warned and was confirmed. I wish I’d picked a better spot, though. If I had pulled off the ramp at the next exit north, I would have had a crystal clear view for it, but oh well.

Got some nice pictures of the rotation and a bit of the structure and the inflow and a little bit of green. Pretty stoked that my hunch paid off and I got to see a tornado producing storm for the first time in my life. Wish I could have seen the funnel, but I think it was rain wrapped anyway.

I saw a funnel cloud the other day. According to Facebook and Gemini it was a "cold air funnel" which happen on clouds that are too small to produce a real tornado. I thought it was pretty cool though.

Extreme heat warning has officially lost all meaning. It's 89 and 55% humidity. For this time of the year that's a cold front. If the storm keeps coming and get rain it will be even cooler. Last week it was 103 but now 89 is extreme heat. Also 55% humidity this time of the year is not bad at all.

We have that warning but it is a bit hotter. I'd call this normal for July:

When I got up this morning it was 60 degrees and very low humidity. It was glorious. It didn’t get above 73 today with bright sunshine, a cool breeze, and negligible humidity. It was so glorious I just said fuck everything and worked on outdoor projects all day.
