I just got back from Marco Island\Bradenton a couple (maybe 3) weeks ago. It rained every day, but didn't really shut down. Granted, it rained pretty fucking hard some days, but I didn't have to sit through power outages and shit. If that had happened, I'd have gotten the fuck out.

After watching friends and family ride out various hurricanes in Houston and different parts of Florida, I wouldn't live anywhere on the gulf coast without a generator that could at least power a chest freezer and a window AC unit at the same time. When last living in Houston, I figured it was fairly safe from major power outages if you were 1 to 2 hours from the coast/bay, but watching the Harvey chaos changed that notion too.

Not sure if I've just been lucky, but I've been in NE FL near Jax for 6+ years now and have only been grazed by weakened hurricanes. Dunno if this is normal or we're just getting set up for a disastrous reversion to the mean.
