The Temple of Elemental Evil. 10 bucks on Steam.
It doesn't have the story or ridiculous romance options of Baldurs Gate, but man as a pure tactical dungeon crawler it might have it beat. And the new steam version plays very well with 25 years worth of updates baked in.

Try it again and play it understanding that you hyper aggressively attack until the enemy deflects you. Then you deflect them. You do not really try and dodge out of stuff most of the time.
Once you start doing that the way to play really opens up and it gets more and more awesome. Everything except Red Kanji attacks, which require using the Mikiri counter, can be deflected.

Just started it last night. Guess the new FSR 4 driver (for my 7900xtx) fucked with the engine as I had to add -dx11 to the game to make it constantly stop crashing. I was playing the mortal shell 2 demo and had a hankering for a souls like then realized I LoP a while ago and never played it.

Played the OG version, that was one buggy mofo when it first came out. Good game though.

It's pretty amazing now. Tons of fixes and content updates. Plays like a brand new game. Albeit with old school mechanics. No crashes but don't rely on autosave. Make a separate manual save when you end your session.
But this game is so fucking hard-core you better save after every successful battle.
I've spent days on one fight. Thinking I have it beat and some fool dies towards the end and I can't afford resurrection.

I picked up Lies of P a while ago on a steam sale. I SUCK at these types of games but LoP gives a difficulty option. I have no problem picking 'I suck hold my hand' level. It's finally clicking with me. I've died to falling or mistiming runs than I have to Mobs. I even bought the DLC last night. Really good game.

Finally beat it, got the real endingincluding the DLC. 44 hours all in. yeah it was on training wheels level but I freely admit I SUCK at these games. It was worth every penny. Now I'm not sure if I want to playrefused to give Geppetto my heart

No Rest For the Wicked was supposed to release in 1.0 in October as well, but was pushed to March 2027.

Played through this obscure survival horror game released late in the Saturn's life. Released in Europe and Japan but oddly, no NA release. Its basically Resident Evil but in an underwater science facility. The main gimmick is that you can run out of air but air supply stations are so plentiful that it never actually poses a risk.
It stretches the term survival horror as ammo and healing supplies are infinite - save rooms have supply closets that allow you to endlessly restock both - but still a fun time.
It has some of the absolute worst voice acting I've heard in a game but that only lends to its charm; it has that mid-late 90s campy voice acting where it was seemingly treated as a fun novelty, similar to RE 1 but worse.
I love playing through these obscure Saturn games and I don't regret the 7ish hours it took to get through this.

neat, never even heard of that game. I stopped at the Genesis / 32X / CD stack thing and didn't even think about a Saturn. Then I bought an Atari Jaguar - Big mistake.
Then I got a PC.
Currently replaying alpha protocol for the 1st time in a few years. Think I had it on Xbox. Boots right up and plays at 4K in Win 11.

I wish I could get back all the $$$ I spent on the Jaguar as a kid. 99% of the games looked and played worse than my Genesis. Alien Vs Predator alone made it almost worth it. But look up videos of Club Drive lol

I hadn't heard of it either; found it while checking out retroachievements.
Never had a 32x or CD. Did have a Saturn but only got it late in its cycle and really only to play Shining Force 3.
Jaguar? Ouch. I'd love to play one, but tjeh are surprisingly really expensive these days.
