So according to my math book 6 of bobiverse was out yesterday but all I see are audio books, I read books like a regular person. Has this series always been audio first then books?

Not always, but the last two are Audible first, yes.

any idea of what the lag time is? I'm finishing book 3 today. Pretty sure if I finish 5 before 6 is in print I'll never go back. It's good, but it's not THAT good.

The previous book was released Sep 5 2024 on audio and Jan 5 2025 in ebook, so assume FOUR months. Yes. That bad.

Anyway I just finished

Minute by minute account of a hypothetical nuclear war that begins with a "bolt out of the blue" ICBM launch by North Korea combined with some pretty extensive research and citations. It's a very tight package with the audiobook clocking in at under twelve hours and it's very good. It's a little pants-shittingly terrifying at a few points as an additional wrinkle of nuclear war gets explained that I hadn't previous considered the full ramifications of and that wrinkle is another apocalypse on a growing stack of them but that's what I signed up for.

Having seen A House of Dynamite it's pretty obvious theft but that movie is cheap trash. It ends before the NK strike even happens and this goes all the way to a cascading nuclear war involving errybody.
I read this as well , good recommendation. It was pretty crazy. Like the old movie Wargames, the only way to win is not to play. There was quite a bit of tech America has that I was unaware of. Our tax dollars at work I guess (may as well since we seem to give them all away). I like the authors writing style and I've moved on to another of her books called 'The Pentagons Brain - DARPA' . I'll read it while I wait for Steve Erikson's next Witness novel to become available.

Oh well guess it's book 5 and done.
Bobiverse is a great series, I read the first 3 in like a week on vacation, then had to wait the years between 4 and 5 and now 6. It's been pretty worth it to pick it back up each time.

yeah I may. I go hot and cold on books. Now I'm on a non-fiction kick. I like pretty much every book genre, well except maybe romance. As long as the story is good, I'm there.

Audio or book ?
I do audio. It is out in hardcover now. My wife is still waiting on the kindle version. Really odd that the kindle version is delayed for so long. Especially since Amazon owns both audible and kindle.

I checked last night and he is supposed to have started on book 7 which will be the last book in the linear story. Meaning he'll go back and do spinoffs later.

Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent by Larry Correia. It's a series of short stories he started writing for fun, but then audible picked up the first one and wanted more. I just listened to the one called #1 in customer service. It's an omnibus of all the previous stories plus a couple of new ones. This is narrated by Adam Baldwin who does a pretty good job. In the first story he made adam baldwin president after the Libertartian Space Cowboy revolution. Later he met adam, who thought that was awesome and got him to narrate them all.

It's pretty silly. He's an insurance agent striving for quality customer service. I'm not saying it's as good as Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, but it's in the same class. It's also a lot shorter. The total audible book was like 8 hours. Larry's MHI books are always at least double that. Dungeon crawler carl books have been 20+ hours.

When I googled Tom Stranger for some images I got mostly results from some dude who got raped or something? I don't know, but if you google it, be sure to add the interdimensional insurance agent part.

Post-apocalyptic story in which sorta giant xenomorphs have destroyed the world. The story is split between one survivor moving across the country and one ex-military bigwig in a bunker explaining what happened and his part of the blame with the two narratives converging towards the end.

The first thing this book fucks up is the author cannot resist the temptation to reference other pieces of fiction this story will remind the reader of if only briefly. Properties like The Road, Aliens, etc. That's a rookie mistake. The first half or so as we're getting told the story of the fall of humanity in little bits interwoven with a dude traveling. It wasn't bad and I wanted to see where we were going but by the end I was so glad it was over. The audiobook was only 9 hours. The last two were work to finish up. It's such a tiny story. There's no big thing that happens. There's no reveal. Our only two characters with dialogue meet up. They share some trauma, fight one more alien, the end. I was really expecting something and there just wasn't.

I complained about the sound design with There is No Anti-Memetics Division (with this book being an Amazon recommendation of that book) and here again I have to wonder if anyone went back over and listened to the whole thing after production. Two guys do the two characters. All the fucking alien noises are emoted loudly each and every time. I was so fucking sick of listening to it that I'd have shut it off except I've become determined to finish up everything I start unless it's just an absolute mismatch by me during selection. I'm sure that reader guy thought he was doing a great job but I can only listening to you SKREEE and SRKONK KRIK KRIK KRIK so many fucking times.

This like a C.
