What vehicle do you drive?

I thought it would be a little cheaper. But, still a good idea and hopefully its executed well.

Not a lot of new information. I do think the range is a bit of a problem - 200 miles is not great, I think 300 is the minimum acceptable range for a new vehicle. It looks like they nixed their extended range variant - that's the only thing I'd pay a premium for.

I'm curious if the one pedal driving can be turned off. I'm in the minority, but I hate it - my leg tends to cramp up if I keep my foot stationary, so, I tend to accelerate and coast.

The product configuration is interesting. I guess they're going to just mail you a bunch of boxes? I'm thinking there's going to be a significant fraction of buyers that will not understand this and be quite butthurt when their vehicle arrives. Either that or quickly realizing they've bitten off much more than they can chew.

Some tesla bro told me they are floating a 15k EV tax credit…

I paused my “refund me” button press on the slate and r2 reservations lol.

15k off either would be perfect.. I just dont know if I would fit in the slate…

You can order it with everything installed, or you can order and DIY, or you can have a service shop install things.

$30k base for SUV. Meh. Double meh for 2WD only.

The factory installed wraps are going to kill them. Both time and manpower intensive to install.
Would it make it easier to install the wrap to body panels that haven't been put on yet?

No. That would clog up their production line. Originally, I heard the trucks were going to be delivered bare with the wrap kit ready to install by their delivery partners. Then I heard there is an option to have them leave the factory complete.

It is going to be a shit show unless they are DIY only.

Looking at their configurator on their site, it doesn't look like they're going to have anything factory installed anymore outside of the base body styles.

Everything just calls out difficulty to perform and possibly a targeted estimated price for professional installation. Their numbers seem rather optimistic - they're "targetting" the vinyl wrap professional installation to be under 500, for example. That seems awful low based on what I know people have paid for that on other cars.

The accessory wheels seem very half baked. Looks like they're just shipping you the bare wheels and then you'll have to transfer over your tires from the stock steel wheels - why bother, it's way overpriced compared just going to a tire shop. It doesn't look like anything is coming mounted/balanced since they rate everything as professional.

I still have my R2 reservation as well. However, we’re going to be in the market for something that can seat six in the not so distant future. My wife’s parents are at an age where they’re cutting back quite a bit.
Also, the rebates have been for first time buyers as well as other restrictions in the past, so likely won’t apply to us.

For seating 6, the Lucid Gravity seems to be well reviewed, just mind the quirky software... oh and the fact that Lucid may go under at anytime and it would be like owning a Fisker Ocean ;)

Lucid makes trash. Friend got one last year. Something was always fucked up on it. Drove it across a few states and left them stranded. Only had it a week or so at that point. Lucid ended up buying it back. Theirs experience is a common one.

I have no idea how they are going to pull off the wrap. Even outsourcing it to delivery partner is going to be a pita. They are going to need a lot of delivery partners in busy markets. Slate quotes 12-16 hours for a full wrap for two people. No one who does wraps is going to commit two people two days for cheap.

This thing will be popular for a year, then people will realize they can get a Maverick for not much more and have something that is 1000000x better. I wonder how reliable the Chinese drivetrain and battery will be. I am guessing not very. Hell, a base model Maverick is $29.5k and that has AWD and four doors.

The more I look at this thing, the less sense it makes.

Debating if spring time high would pretty waiting 6 months to sell the Jag. Not tired of it per se, though I don't get to hot rod it often. Kinda moving in to the boring mentality of not wanting the money tied up in vehicles. Insurance is only 100/month.
Paid off so that's a good chunk back into the projects account, could skim a little for a under 10k bike and still kinda have a trifecta of little ricer shitbox commuter, bike fun/commuter, and farm truck for a bit under 40k in combined value.

If you aren’t in love with it, the freed up capital will be more comfortable and convenient. I just sold one of my cars to put into a commercial property. The timing was right.

I know I'd miss it. But Jag is in the dumps anyways so whenenever a big repair comes up going to be possibly in the wind for parts, I mean over a month just for my strut tower. If I was still in Colorado with better/faster highways I think I'd enjoy it more. Still kinda nice whipping around a corner and hitting 50 instantly instead of waiting for oncoming traffic closing in 25 yards away.

Not struggling in any way, but old enough I'd like to ya be happier having an extra 25k in investments for the long term, and I think my free play money has been tighter because 5 years of inflation vs 1-2% raises, I'm having to plan ahead a lot more for putting 5k here or there on stuff.

Did the New England Foliage run. Vermont to NJ and back. Saw everything from post-peak to just turning.

And did it with style in the 6SP MT Golf R...

And yo-- dude with the mustang, I know you wanted to road race, but this trip was for sight-seeing (and some side family stuff). I think I would have smoked you on the Taconic, but we will never know... and you'll be happier not knowing.

Just had a guy in a base c8 randomly come approach us at Deal’s Gap and spend almost 20 minutes telling my buddy and I he’d whoop our ass on the roads at the Tail. We invited him to run down 28 and at the end he was 4 minutes behind. THEN he had every fucking excuse in the book and “well I’ll just go get my ZR1” and on and on. Literally starting a fight with us. Dudes who got paid to travel the world killing people. He had to have been mental.

Anyway, Mustang guy was probably the same.

It’s fun when it’s off hours. The roads around Tail are better, in my opinion. Can use more than 1 or 2 gears. Man, the autumn out here is great, like Vermont, which I spent some years in. And you can’t beat mountain roads.
