I have automatic updates off on my phone. I have Google play updates off on my phone. I have everything set to ask before installing anything. Despite this, and despite not approving or installing any updates, my phone just randomly changes the appearance and functionality of key features for no fucking reason. Like this week, the alarm clock function changed. I went to move my alarm from 6am to 7am because I can go to work later this week, and alarm goes off at 6 on Monday. I do the same on Monday night and it goes off at 6 on Tuesday. I look again, and now there is a fucking "save" button in the lower right corner of the screen for literally zero reason. Oh, yeah, sorry, usually I just play around with my alarm clock just to see what certain times look like, I don't want to actually get up then.

I hate this related trend of random blue balloon pop ups with a tip whenever you start an application. Go away, don't interrupt my workflow. Google play store has been trying to make me submit payment info for about 15 years now, how many times do they want me to ignore that popup.
As for alarms, one of these has been in my bedroom since about 1985 and it'll probably still be there when I finally croak.

i have one like this, think i got it when i was teen. the clear cover fell of long ago. to set it, have to press time/alarm, then press hour, then min, which each go one number at a time. last night when i was setting it, it started skipping numbers. hope it just needs a cleaning.

I have one that's been skipping numbers (or to be more accurate, the time goes forward in rapid bursts while setting it) for about 15 years and it still works fine otherwise. I repaired another with with a dead button, these things often use really simple switches that's just a metal dome literally cellotaped in place on the circuit board. Old tape had torn, which had let the dome move to a place where it didn't work. Cleaned it and taped it back in place, good as new. No soldering needed. If it gets bad it's worth opening it up before tossing it in any case.

I still have both of those alarm clocks but the buttons barely work so I don't don't even use the alarms anymore. They're just pointed in different directions in the room to give me the time from anywhere.
Back in the day I needed 2 alarms because I'd shut the first one off and fall back asleep.

one of my old friend, in his 20's had 3 alarm clocks, one on each side of the bed and one on the dresser across the room. he had to leave his house at like 6am, so the alarms would start at 4. remember him explaining his setup, told him i would understand and forgive his apt neighbor for his murder.

That must be an awesome existence. I am usually wide awake waiting between 3 and 17 minutes before my scheduled alarm. It doesn't matter if it's 4 in the morning and I have slept three hours, my alarm never wakes me up.

Speaking of alarms. My mom had one that wouldn't turn off. She had used it for so many years to get up at the same time, hit the snooze twice, then finally get up, that even if the alarm was set to off, it would still go off at the same time. Even if you turned it off again instead of hitting snooze, it would still go off 15 minutes later. Twice. Monday through Friday. Somehow it knew to skip the weekends. It was crazy.

I have one of those too, but it has 2 modes - buzzer and radio. I can't adjust the volume on the buzzer, so when I'm waking up earlier than the spouse, that's out. And the radio has the problem of being the radio. Haven't listened to the radio in over a decade now. The station I grew up with is now the worst mix of bullshit I've ever seen. I have no idea what their demographic is. They play fucking 1986 guns n roses alongside some of the most worthless modern "rock" (if you can even call it that). I can't wake up to Smashing Pumpkins ever again, Billy Corgan's voice makes me wanna stab everyone in the face.
So yeah, faggot fucking phone it is, because faggot fucking radio ain't gonna work. At least I can adjust the alarm volume on the phone

Back in the day, when I was in college, I had my bed lofted up pretty high in my apartment. I always, ALWAYS woke up before my alarm. I set it just because it seemed like a good idea. One morning, ONE morning the alarm went off and woke me up. I sat straight up in bed, startled, and my head connected with the ceiling. Hard. I had popcorn stucco in my hair and embedded in my forehead. I turned the alarm off and stayed in bed. Fuck any day that starts like that.
