Every Monday, someone at work picks up donuts for the office.

Our fat "office lady" is "watching her weight", but she wants to try all the donuts every week so she cuts a wedge out of every donut and takes them back to her desk. Shes been doing this for 10+ years.

Ten years y'all allowed this? Kind of on you, fuck office food that has been touched my others. Get to stabbing bro.

Long version was the flamer fags were in there and were told an outcome or answer they didnt like, threw up their hands that omg wasted their whole day (they were there approximately 3 minutes) etc. On the way out our more retarded non people person thought it wise to spout out about boy what a bunch of man children. (One troon, both overweight so I assume took it as misgendering). The dude spun on his heel, neckbeard bristling, literally the like stereotype fat hand in the air, index finger up on high waggling. That he would not stand for this, and just a slew of bitching while it became 3 of us telling him to gtfo or else we would assist him out. Ended up with a double elbow lock out the front door.

I really wish I could record some of the stuff would be almost youtube worthy, though funnily enough we just got a memo about AI glasses being forbidden at work.
Your stories are way better when you use more words. I know you hate typing on your phone. I do too. But the difference in your posts is huge.

Ya, didnt quite warrant a new post, but I felt like it tagged into his. More this time I was short on time, if you go check pets thread in screenshots, dealing with a direly ill puppy, so I revert to my old kinda almost short hand writing. Wife usuallly understands me at least if she has the barest amount of context, but without being in my world, I guess it may be hard to follow unless someone remembers all my posts real well, kinda like cad/butthurt don't always need to explain they are in law, so folks already know their environment.

I'm just back from seeing a whole string of townhouses that are recently built. They're all for sale now, and people are requesting inspections. I was called in to do some inspections and I can't fucking believe what I saw. Every wall in every fucking town house (there are 25) is "painted" with primer only. Every touch on the wall leaves a mark. They put in renovation boxes instead of new construction boxes. Three of the chandeliers have fallen down. They're 23 pounds each, they put in boxes rated for 25 pounds, saying it exceeds what was necessary. They also put in used water heaters, several of which are now leaking less than 3 months after installation. The concrete sidewalk in front of the complex is already cracking, and I discovered today they didn't use any rebar or mesh, just poured really wet concrete they allowed to self level and it's already breaking. They also didn't install floor drains in the utility rooms, so I have no idea how they got a residency permit. They're still building the garages, separate building, and they've left the OSB roof exposed to the elements for about 3 months. It's turning into corn flakes. Also the concrete has to be cut an inspected, I suspect there is no metal in there. The original build was somewhere north of $600K, we're looking at likely $200K to fix all the shit. 50 water heaters (there are two per unit, many of them will be rented as AirBNB or whatever, everyone wants a shower/bath at the same time, so 100 gallons of hot water at a time), new cement all over, possible rewiring needed in most of it because they put too much on each breaker. They left the panels 3/4 empty, just put everything on as few breakers as possible. And, just the icing on the cake, they didn't connect the fire/CO2 detectors in the internal wiring. They have to be. That's opening ceilings on every floor.

I could go on. I kind of want to. But this fucking contractor just took a more than half million dollar shit on the investor. I know the investor. He would have hired me, but I don't take on this expensive a project. But now I have to go in and fix it. Investor is taking the original contractor to court, and it won't be small claims.

I just don't fucking get it. Why on earth would you take a job and do a really, really shitty job? I mean, your name is going to be on that job. Everyone in the community is going to know about the quality of the work you do. The investor has spent several days calling all the other large investors in town and telling them all about it. I know the contractor, we'll call him fuckface, has had to lay off most of his labour force. He has no work upcoming, and he was fired from his current contract.

This is true on a much smaller scale as well. Fucking plumbers charging $400 to show up to fix a garbage disposal that just needed the reset button to be pushed, especially for elderly people that have a fixed and small income. I want to beat the crap out of these people. I've got probably 30 clients who are retired and not wealthy. I go change their lightbulbs (do you want your grandpa or grandma on a ladder changing light bulbs?) or put salt in the water softener, or fix a window, or whatever. I don't charge them. It's just unconscionable to me that you price gouge people who absolutely can't afford it.

I need to stop. This issue is a soap box of mine.

Don't stop please, I am interested in how this shit is allowed as well. Maybe not everyone here but perhaps move to a more appropriate thread. If you do that please msg me to let me know where, I don't go to all of them. I have soooo many questions about how it got to that state. Are you in some asshole nowhere that does not have an inspection department? Inspectors are not my favorite people but I do appreciate the necessity of them.

When I was still in the Carolinas, there was a company that bought out other large electrical contractors and formed a 'mega - company', then cherry picked them apart , shit the bed, filed bankruptcy and left a lot of work unfinished. The company I worked for took over a few of the projects to help the GC get them completed as they self -bonded. I had to go recon them and I could not believe they got so bad so fast.

There are a lot of reasons this crap happens. This company about which I'm speaking is big, so they have name recognition, and that goes a long, long way. I've never once advertised as a contractor, every single thing is word of mouth and reputation. But I'm small potatoes, so name recognition isn't the thing for me. And it has just become such a standard thing that there is just a standard showing up fee that people just accept it. There are various companies around, like "Mr. Handyman" that have a $300 minimum show up fee. Somehow this has become industry standard, except for honest people. It just has escalated since the pandemic. Everyone seemed okay with hiking prices at that point. It's infuriating.

Hmm I was referring to the shoddy work you were asked to look at more than how prices got hiked. I'm way too damn familiar with that. We were buying material for projects in anticipation that we would get them and I worked for a top 20 electrical contractor in the USA

It's shit like that why additional inspection's have been added in the counties I build in over the years. Construction entrance separate from E&S separate from clearing, Slab inspection pre-pour, Sheathing separate from waterproofing/moisture, etc. Then the county gets down an inspector or two due to vacation or incident and suddenly inspections are 3-7 days out on scheduling. Client gets all antsy that the house sits so much and questions our build schedule. Infuriating.

Im gonna guess a lot of it has to do with "housing only goes up!" as to why shitbirds can get away with installing used water heaters in new construction or not using rebar in concrete.

How do you fix the concrete without taking down the house?

There are certain things that can be done. If it's foundational it involves a lot of jack-posts, cutting concrete out of key areas like the corners and then again every couple of feet, adding new cement, drilling through the old, and adding rebar and mesh. Also trench the floor, reenforce it, repour. It's amazing the things you can do to a houses foundation without disturbing the rest of the house. I have a friend who actually puts basements under homes that were built on a slab. Lift the house, pour the foundation, lower the house. That always includes all new plumbing, as the plumbing is generally in the slab and has to be relocated. It's a huge operation that requires a lot of knowledge of construction and engineering and a great deal of patients. Spending a month getting the house on to iron beams, then it takes a very long day to lift the house, even if it's just a few inches. Typically they lift the house/structure about 18 inches to allow for a foundation with windows for natural light. Imagine being responsible for picking up an entire house? He has very bigly expensive liability insurance.

Amazing that doing all that shit would only be $200k on an original $600k build.

The stuff with fixing the slab, not the basement addition. I bet the basement add costs even more.

Where is the permitting/inspections in all that? Was the job outside any city jurisdiction with no oversight? Do the inspectors just no show and green tag everything? What you describe shouldn't be possible with even a token amount of oversight. In my part of the world none of that would even be possible.

The worst horror story I've came across was an inspector letting a few houses pass without a proper vapor barrier that ended up having to go to court. An entire multi million dollar neighborhood ended up saying, fuck this shit, and left that little incorporated town and took their tax dollars with em.

Inspector also lost his job.

Yeah agreed, this doesn't pass the smell test.
