Been holding out trying to wait for gas prices to drop a bit. Finally got to fumes yesterday and filled up at $3.99 which it’d been stuck at for a while. Go out today and it’s $3.75. Fff.

It's like investments, got to finesse your body bassis. Fill up 3-5 gallons at 3.99 but now you could get 10 out whatever now and bring your average in between! That's what I do in my mind somewhat, get a dip fill 3 cars and trucks and only drive the 35mpg shit ox while it's high

I am trying to make a login for my companies new 401k administrator. Un fucking believable.

It tells me I need 3 of the 4 following.
Cap letter
Lower case
Number
Special character.

So I enter a password with all but the special character. It won't let me register because the special character is required.

Ok cool whatever. I make one with all 4.

It won't let me register because my password needs to be more secure and I should use more than one word.

I enter the password with spaces. It was already a sentence so no big deal. As soon as I enter the first space the special character requirement lights up red again and it won't let me create the account because the special char is still required.

update:
I talked to tech support. Get your big chief tablet and number 2 pencil out because you're going to want to take notes.

When you get that message saying "your password needs to be more secure, try using a phrase", there are 2 things the average bear has no way of knowing.
1. It spits out that message because it compares your password to a list of hacked passwords from the dark web and it will not let you use any password that has ever been hacked. Regardless of the username. In all of history. So basically you have to come up with one nobody has ever used.

2. Spaces aren't allowed. When it says try a phrase. It doesn't mean that literally. It's just meant to be a meaningless platitude to frustrate you.

I guess their security philosophy is, if the user can't remember his password the funds are secure. You fucking IT fucks wonder why we keep writing our passwords on sticky notes.

Use Bitwarden with a random generated master password (mine is 32 chars long and I don't remember it cuz it's jibberish) and use the random password generator in it to sing up for your sites. Lastpass was getting hacked left and right, have not had a problem with Bitwarden, plus it's free.

Free security sounds like a problem.

If it's free, you are the product.

I don't trust any of those things, free or otherwise. First off, anything can be hacked, why create a loot box for hackers where they can hack one thing and get all of your common treasures? It's like putting out a statement that your servers cannot be hacked. It's a challenge someone will accept. Second, what happens when their servers go down (or if it's all kept locally, the program gets corrupted)? You have no chance of getting logged in. Better hope your recovery email doesn't have one of those gibberish passwords.

Free advice, you get what you pay for.

EDIT: I think I'm coming back to this, you two are people I interact on this forum quite a bit, you seem decent dudes.

You're what , writing your passwords on paper ? Sticky notes? Being diligent?

I cannot buy a car now if I want to unless I use cash. I cannot get a loan now unless I plan exactly when to apply, why? Cuz some free password manager? NO Because NIKKI-FUCKING CUNT-FACE-HALEY gave away all our info when she was the governor of SC. I spent most of a month cancelling old accounts and opening new ones (including a mortgage and yeah that was fun!) because I was so compromised, and my wife and I were 2 of 3.6 MILLION impacted by her stupid shit. Cannot call it a hack, it was on an unencrypted server. Might as well throw money in the road and call it a robbery when someone stops and picks it up. I froze all our credit that day and when we do need something we have to plan when to look for it. Stops me from impulse buying a Lambo but that's about the only good thing.

This is an AI Summary:

In 2012, then-South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley accepted personal blame for a massive cyberattack on the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR), stating the state failed to encrypt taxpayer data and use two-factor authentication.

The breach, which began in August 2012 when an employee clicked a malicious link, resulted in the theft of 3.6 million Social Security numbers, 3.3 million bank account numbers, and tax records for approximately 6.4 million individuals and businesses dating back to 1998. Haley described the combination of outdated 1970s-era equipment and reliance on IRS guidelines that did not mandate encryption as a "cocktail for attack," leading her to urge the federal government to require data encryption.

  • Responsibility: SLED Chief Mark Keel stated in 2024 that he knows who is responsible but has not released details, though KrebsOnSecurity suggests the attack was carried out by a Russian hacking crew linked to breaches at Target and Home Depot.
  • Aftermath: The state paid $12 million for identity protection services, and SCDOR Director Jim Etter resigned following the incident.

Your password on a sticky note is no good either when we depend on dipshits at the top.

I'm going in the yard and yell at the clouds now.

tl;dr I'm fucked either way

OK....

The wife comes to me and tells me she's finding the bath rug in front of her tub being mysterious soaked....
Every morning.... soaked rug.....

I think immediately probably culprits, bad toilet seal... Bathtub drain gasket rotting out... worse scenario... MAYBE a leaky pipe in the wall behind the toilet (easy) or bath fixture (fuuuuuu have to redo tile after getting it fixed).

The plumber we use does a once a year "come out and check everything" , and I was having him swap out a couple external garden hose fixtures anyway, so I tell him about this and have him take a look.... described over the phone without telling him what I thought and he also suspected almost the exact same list.

He gets there...
  • Checks and none of the water is escaping around the toilet (caulking seal still completely solid).
  • Undoes the tub drain and checks, gasket is fine. Fills tub... nothing leaking there.
  • Has to cut the drywall behind the toilet to check there... No pipe leaks (???)
He's scratching his head too. Sees where the water is getting in, seeping in and completely saturating the bottom of the framing and everything. But no active water flow anywhere. Light comes on....

Goes to the other side of the wall, which is my bathroom. Goes into my shower. Pops the drain cover off, shoves a stopper in. Runs the shower to get around 3/4" of water in the shower basin.

Goes to wife's bathroom... Yep.. water seeping now. Drops a dye tablet and can see it flowing from my side.

Goes back, investigates, calls me in. Seems the idiots who put in my shower drain and did the stonework in my shower (whole thing, including floor is travertine) didn't even VAGUELY install the shower basin seal right. It's the rubber sheet UNDER the shower floor that makes sure water getting through the tile ends up in the drain. They also failed to the point that water going down the normal drain could get back up into the area under the shower floor. So when anything didn't let the drain complete flow unobstructed it was flooding the space in those layers.

Fixable? Yeah... All I have to do is DEMO THE WHOLE DAMN SHOWER FLOOR and 8" up the wall, then install a whole new liner, a PROPER drain and drain connect, redo the leveled mortar, retile the floor and such in the shower. so...

So that whole floor, and two rows of tile up the wall, PLUS the stuff on the angled part.

This point bro you may just need to live with the fact this is your forever home, you seem to be rebuilding it one room at a time.

To add to my previous rustle, I just had to sit down with my wife and help her sign up for yet more credit monitoring (They give you ## of months of free credit monitoring because it's pretty fucking useless) because her Frontline Education system has been compromised by the dreaded 'third party' and her SS # was exposed. That was the state of Nevada's preferred vendor not us.

This is kinda where the wife is at. I still dream of a place with some land and a properly sized garage/workshop. And by properly sized I mean a garage/workshop with about the same Sq Ft size as the house.
