Husband and I are taking a quick jaunt through Colorado for 5 days so that we get a feel for the area/weather; starting to casually get a list of states together that we might want to buy a house in. Probably one day in Fort Collins, one day in Colorado Springs, one day in Denver, so forth.

Any recommended things to do? Neither of us are big travelers or barflies, and this trip was thrown together pretty much at the last minute.

Basically looking for low effort/high reward things to do. Thanks.

Good reasons except for weather. Too broad to experience. Currently it is 101 with many wild fires. Tuesday is supposed to be 45 and snow....

Very dry state, depending what area varying degrees of yearly hail and wind storms. Winter is usually cold but mild with only 2-3 real snowfalls that dry up quick unless you live in a neighborhood with shady streets. Then plenty of small teases of snow that melt by next morning.

Housing hasn't really slowed our retracted like nationally, prices still kinda absurd for rent and purchase.

But hey, weed if that's your thing and mountains. Great for outdoorsy people.

Also Denver is too huge to visit in a day. 90% of the state lives in the sprawl that is Denver and the surrounding cities /suburbs. Plenty of ghettos and higher end areas.

Springs has a sorta nice area but has a lot of shitty areas, like 5th worst crime in state. I hear traveling up the highway to Denver can be a bitch.

Fort Collins College town, traffics starting to get kinda bad and lots of homeless these days but good bar /food scene. Almost as pretty as Boulder without being as heavily hippy.

If you like hiking Horsetooth is a good one in Ft Collins. It's a big time beer town too. There are like 15 breweries there. Maybe more. Some of the spots in Old Town have a very western saloon feel to them with live music regularly.

We did Horsetooth yesterday and Garden of the Gods today. Been an interesting experience for a Midwestern guy who is used to flat, flat, flat.

Colorado drivers seem pretty well-mannered, which is a refreshing change from visiting my folks in the Carolinas.

Be glad you did the days you did. It looked like 10 mins before sunset at noon today in Fort Collins with ash cinders landing everywhere. Cars at dealership we went to were getting seats stained and whole bunch piling up on the cars

Yeah, it got really dark/hazy about halfway up to Fort Collins yesterday; had to turn on the headlights despite it being about 2 or 3p when we got up there. The sun was blood red at GotG today. Really surreal. Is it always this bad with the wildfires in summer?

No, usually some fires but not like this. Very long hot dry summer with no rain.
