Hopefully he left behind a storage unit full of gold bars and renaissance paintings that no one knows about.

John Prine wrote one of his most known songs. You never even call me by my name. Still some reporting issues on if it was him that did or not, guess now they have decided it was.

From pre music video days in the mid 70s. From heart worn highways with others like Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Charlie Daniels, Steve Young and others.

Big David Allan Coe fan. I randomly throw on his songs every now and again. Great writer himself too.

And then there was this stuff…

I saw him in concert once at a small place. Friend bought tickets for him, his wife, and and me and my girlfriend.

About 5 minutes in one speaker blerw or something. It was incrediblhy loud and wasn't music at all. The crowd started getting kind of irked and he got louder. People started leaving and it was starting to get ugly and he was mouthing off to them. We left before a fight broke out. Pretty sure he was 3 sheets in the wind by the time he got on stage. It sounded very bad.

Probably 20-25 years ago.

I can totally see that happening. I think he’s probably been past in shape to sing for 30 years.

Tbf, if I had gone to see him live and he wasn't dunk and trying to fight the audience, I'd probably have been a little disappointed.

As a kid I didn't know that Duke Phillips was making fun of Ted Turner constantly. Ted had the bright idea to colorize old movies and everyone fucking hated it.

The mouth of the South! He was a goober in many ways but he was pretty entertaining to listen to on interviews and whatnot.

Was also reportedly very pleasant to work for. No matter what anyone thinks of him his ideas brought about massive influence in how TV turned out.

He definitely was a pioneer in the cable TV space. The colorized movies I can understand - I remember as a kid basically dismissing a black and white movie as “too old”. Colorizing old movies was like the 80s/90s equivalent of remastering an old tv show: you lose something of the original, but you get some new eyes watching it

didn't know it, but he announced in 2018 he'd been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. looks like he had a bad case of pneumonia last year.
