they are adding stunts to oscars next year too i think and i'm sure tom cruise is jonesing hard for one of those. he is probably super freaky weird IRL if you can even ever really get to know him, and its pretty weird his kid wants absolutely nothing to do with him, but the dude lives for movies and xenu.

like when he is not filming movies he is learning new skills and shit to apply to future movies, guy just does nothing but think about making us happy. thank you tom

Bugonia - yes very good
Frankenstein - yes yes
Hamnet - need to see
Marty Supreme - yes very good
One Battle After Another - very good yes
The Secret Agent - need to see
Sentimental Value - yes yes super good
Train Dreams - need to see
Sinners - uhhh ... ummm ... okay then?
F1 - f**k right off. Get this shit out of here. Idiots

Better options than F1 include:
The Life of Chuck
Weapons
Warfare
A House of Dynamite
The Materialists
Wake Up Dead Man
Black Bag
It was Just an Accident

F1 is a movie length Formula One commercial. Fuck you

Warfare not being on that list is insane. Probably the most edge of my seat I have ever been watching a movie.

For the Academy Best Pic is between One Battle After Another and Sinners. Why Sinners IDK, I thought it was fine but im sure its some black thing. F1 was winning editing Awards during awards season so its not a total surprise to see it end up there.

Tbh I want Bugonia or Marty Supreme to win based on that list.

For F1, two reminders:
1) The field was expanded from 5 to (potentially / usually) 10 because mass market movies like the Dark Knight Rises were being left off the list in favor of pure Oscar bait.
2) There are (or at least, were prior to the voter expansion) a lot of Euros in the voting population. So yes, while Weapons would be the more likely _American_ mass market movie, it had 56% of its take from the US. F1 only did 30% of its take in the US and did over twice the worldwide take of Weapons. If you had to have a mass market movie in the list, F1 is more justifiable from a global perspective.

Meanwhile, the critics are (arguably justifiably) upset there weren't more 'typical Oscar' movies in that list. While It Was Just An Accident did make the International final five and could win there, No Other Choice did not. And even domestically, A24 backed Sorry, Baby had a lot of supporters and saw zero noms.

There's too many bangers in 2025 to give any air to F1 outside of technical achievements or sinners outside of a dance scene

Just watched Hamnet. Another amazing movie

Watched The Secret Agent the other day. It is also a pretty serious contender. In the meta category that is the "Big political film of the year" it beats Eddington and One Battle After Another handily in my book. Probably because it goes about its themes in a different way, toning down the humor and anchoring its story in historical reality.

I would vote for Sinners for best score. The music was pretty fucking great. The rest of the movie was just okay in my book but it's definitely critic proof.

Mmm, I most've dosed off again, 6/10 for me. Sad, sure. But also very long. Been watching many western shows lately, all the 1883, 1923, yellowstone etc. I don't know it made much more of an impact than those? Man lost friends, family, house, mind and somehow saw it all from above and healed. Also time and history passed by.
