Having a fun time. Just finished the first biome. I think my biggest complaint is the inventory management so far. I wish your ship inventory was just accessible from whatever island or base you were at. Feels like I spend so much time grabbing what I think the "buyers" will buy, realizing I brought the wrong shit, then swimming out to my poorly placed ship to grab it and return. Also, if you fast travel by boat I think by default it should leave you on the boat and not place you on land, realize you forgot something on the boat, and then have to swim back to your poorly placed boat. Maybe I'm dumb and there's some way around these things.

You can access your ship inventory under the Flagship tab, as long as you’re close enough to it (probably 100 yards or so)

Well that could have saved me a lot of swimming. I guess I have no problem with the fast travel taking you off your boat then lolz.

There’s a ton of QoL things they need to implement. I’m sure they will in time.

One thing I’d like is a party indicator. As is, playing coop it was hard to tell that we’re even in a party together. A traditional window with member HP bars and such would be welcome.

Also, it would be good for me to be able to assign them as official crew of my flagship. And then if I fast travel on my ship, I want everyone on board to come with me, including the ship. Assuming you’re fast traveling somewhere near a dock.

Game has a ludicrous amount of potential. I want to see some truly gigantic ships. Like 3 decks plus a cargo hold gigantic. 30 cannons on a single side, etc.

My friend and I were talking and it would be amazing if there were more for the others on board a ship to do. Like messing with the rigging to increase speed, improve turning radius, etc. And storms could be a fun mini game in their own right, everyone working together to ensure the ship takes as little damage as possible.

Has anyone found a good use for the second cannon ball type? It’s a bolo type which traditionally would be used to destroy masts and such, but in game it appears the only difference is trajectory? Does it have better/worse range, or just a different flight path?

Yeah, having others on your ship doing "things" needs to provide some sort of bonus. More damage on the cannons, faster reload, higher knotage when sailing.. something. As it stands, you're just gimping yourself by everyone not just being in their own boat, especially since mob HP goes up by 100% for each additional player.

I have noticed you give them the debuff more often when using option 2, whatever the circle + cross over a sail means. I was assuming it is a speed debuff but I really have no idea and haven't found it to be any help, so I just go with option 1, big balls.

Oh I hadn’t even noticed that debuff icon.

We are playing somewhat blind intentionally, haven’t really looked anything up. Will probably keep it that way for awhile more. We just found the Foothills, and the associated health sponge mobs.

Anyone know if this game has a system where level differential will cause you to do less/more damage or whatever? We’re only level 5 or 6, stuff in that area is 8 or 9 (boss and his quest was 9). Should we be doing side questing/exploring until we are closer to 9? We really want the ship upgrade though, and the lumber and cloth are Foothills only I think (or at least not starting biome).

Level difference doesn't matter so much, gear difference is the big one. Always match your gear to your level. Hitting a level 8 mob with level 5 gear is a massive difference between hitting it with level 8 gear. The game doesn't do a good job of explaining how important gear is, in that sense.

The same goes for ship gear.

Yeah I figured gear matters a ton but we’re stuck at level 5 on gear until we can find some second-biome resources anyway, yeah?

So basically suck it up and go gather the resources we need.

Basically go gather new mats, yeah. A lot of people have under leveled gear when fighting (especially new areas, level jumps, etc.) things and think the game is unfair/too hard.
