Having a fun time. Just finished the first biome. I think my biggest complaint is the inventory management so far. I wish your ship inventory was just accessible from whatever island or base you were at. Feels like I spend so much time grabbing what I think the "buyers" will buy, realizing I brought the wrong shit, then swimming out to my poorly placed ship to grab it and return. Also, if you fast travel by boat I think by default it should leave you on the boat and not place you on land, realize you forgot something on the boat, and then have to swim back to your poorly placed boat. Maybe I'm dumb and there's some way around these things.

You can access your ship inventory under the Flagship tab, as long as you’re close enough to it (probably 100 yards or so)

Well that could have saved me a lot of swimming. I guess I have no problem with the fast travel taking you off your boat then lolz.

There’s a ton of QoL things they need to implement. I’m sure they will in time.

One thing I’d like is a party indicator. As is, playing coop it was hard to tell that we’re even in a party together. A traditional window with member HP bars and such would be welcome.

Also, it would be good for me to be able to assign them as official crew of my flagship. And then if I fast travel on my ship, I want everyone on board to come with me, including the ship. Assuming you’re fast traveling somewhere near a dock.

Game has a ludicrous amount of potential. I want to see some truly gigantic ships. Like 3 decks plus a cargo hold gigantic. 30 cannons on a single side, etc.

My friend and I were talking and it would be amazing if there were more for the others on board a ship to do. Like messing with the rigging to increase speed, improve turning radius, etc. And storms could be a fun mini game in their own right, everyone working together to ensure the ship takes as little damage as possible.

Has anyone found a good use for the second cannon ball type? It’s a bolo type which traditionally would be used to destroy masts and such, but in game it appears the only difference is trajectory? Does it have better/worse range, or just a different flight path?

Yeah, having others on your ship doing "things" needs to provide some sort of bonus. More damage on the cannons, faster reload, higher knotage when sailing.. something. As it stands, you're just gimping yourself by everyone not just being in their own boat, especially since mob HP goes up by 100% for each additional player.

I have noticed you give them the debuff more often when using option 2, whatever the circle + cross over a sail means. I was assuming it is a speed debuff but I really have no idea and haven't found it to be any help, so I just go with option 1, big balls.

Oh I hadn’t even noticed that debuff icon.

We are playing somewhat blind intentionally, haven’t really looked anything up. Will probably keep it that way for awhile more. We just found the Foothills, and the associated health sponge mobs.

Anyone know if this game has a system where level differential will cause you to do less/more damage or whatever? We’re only level 5 or 6, stuff in that area is 8 or 9 (boss and his quest was 9). Should we be doing side questing/exploring until we are closer to 9? We really want the ship upgrade though, and the lumber and cloth are Foothills only I think (or at least not starting biome).

Level difference doesn't matter so much, gear difference is the big one. Always match your gear to your level. Hitting a level 8 mob with level 5 gear is a massive difference between hitting it with level 8 gear. The game doesn't do a good job of explaining how important gear is, in that sense.

The same goes for ship gear.

Yeah I figured gear matters a ton but we’re stuck at level 5 on gear until we can find some second-biome resources anyway, yeah?

So basically suck it up and go gather the resources we need.

Basically go gather new mats, yeah. A lot of people have under leveled gear when fighting (especially new areas, level jumps, etc.) things and think the game is unfair/too hard.

What is a good game server hosting service for a dedicated server? I was thinking of playing around with one. Nitrado popped up with mixed reviews.

Just run one yourself. Its under tools in steam.

Well, (Sorry I should have added this part) kind of the idea is always having it running 24/7 with some coop buddies with mixed play times and we can all play in the same world without always having my PC running where one, two, three, will be on or off all at sporadic times and sometimes on at the same time.

My friends and I grabbed this. I’m running the server from my always-on laptop and it’s awesome. We’re having a fucking blast.

We've been using G-Portal since release with no issues. I set it up with daily 4AM restarts and it's smooth as butter.

I got a refurb minisforum mini PC before the component AIpocalypse (the m2 and memory I got for it sells for double what I paid for the minipc now) and it's worked out great for that kind of stuff.

I hope this is a game that the developers continue to work on and not bail with whatever windfall they got from the EA success. This game COULD be great but there's still some work to do.

I probably would have went a bit further had D4 not come out, but what kinda made me throw in the towel for now was saving up for the epic frigate for a while and then realizing once I had the plans that I didn't have the ability to craft it because I wasn't yet in the 3rd biome. Probably my fault for not realizing this but maybe they could limit things you can buy to things you can currently craft.

Could also imo use some some work on the stat allocation of weapons. I got a sick rapier that inflicted dot damage and spent all my mats to level it up, so of course I specced hard into agi or whatever it was that the weapon used. Felt like after that I was really hamstrung by which -other- weapons, both ranged and melee, that I could ever use. Maybe that's intended, but I never found a matching musket or pistol for that stat until much later, so i was using a green musket for quite a while.

Also, I see no reason to ever make another base beyond the starting one. There's so much fast travel that what would I ever waste time moving stuff or farming enough stuff to make a new base for? I'd love to have a reason to do it, but I'll never do it just out of the desire to build something. Just seems like a lot of work .. maybe it's because I play solo and no one is ever going to see it.

You can re-spec for free without penalty at any time for both skills and talents. Not sure if that is what you are talking about or maybe didn't know.

I am guessing after the 2nd biome there may be reason to but I haven't gotten that far yet. I am still exploring the first area and only level 6.

Maybe a base in each biome with a bell for fast travel - I have a main base obviously right now in the 1st biome, but I am thinking I do not need to be completely elaborate with the other 3 - just a bell, stations, some storage - etc. It's easy to quickly throw up a house and a dock. Takes like 15 minutes. Wood, clay and stone are super easy to get in mass with flying around on your ship for wood, stone out of one mining run, and clay a run and a half.
