Wolves are definitely fuckers, but I haven't run into anything yet that wasn't a huge case of, "GIT GUD M8TY".

I played it on release. I tried going back after they added Ashlands and... it is no longer enjoyable to me? I think the genre passed Valheim by over the years they have been dragging this out. Game seems a bit too clunky and grindy for me nowadays in comparison to some of the other games I have listed.
How in the world does a game with a resource slider (solo, I play on 2x) seem grindy??

Anyone gotten into the later biomes? I heard it becomes a mess at that point. Enemies like wolves attack so quickly you can't do the 'run in, swing twice, dash out' thing anymore and you end up having to rely on your gun to have any chance. From what people were saying the devs adjusted the stuff that was in the demo based on feedback (like how shitty boar charge used to be), but anything past that point is just completely unbalanced.
Upgrading gear is a must. Really need level 10 gear for the 2nd biome and 15 for the 3rd. Swamp is the real bitch.

So, feel free to call me a curmudgeonly asshole here, but I never touched the sliders. Remember, the game has been out a LONG time now, and was groundbreaking at release. I played it then, it was revolutionary for the genre and felt great. I went back, nostalgia in my eyes of remembering how good it was and just left the settings at default. I never gave it the chance of messing with the settings after finding it unsatisfactory the second time around, I just moved on to next thing. Of which, there is now many many options to try, instead of trying to make an old favorite work for me.

That said, I will most likely be giving it a shot again when it hits 1.0. I am one of those who generally believes that the game is meant to be played on the developer designed settings, so even though I have played a lot of survival games by now, I never messed with sliders until the game I am playing currently (Soulmask), but that is because it is intended to be played multiplayer, and I play exclusively single player (so those settings were woefully insufficient).

Well now I feel like the one out of the loop

What's the closest to valheim progression feel.

I would say Enshrouded for sure. It definitely gives me that vibe, but with more quality of life (glider is such a great feature for travel).

I genuinely do not enjoy jump scares, and the water aspect makes me uncomfortable...I know that sounds dumb, I'm fully aware of it, but it's just hard for me to want to get into, especially solo.

I'll play it someday, though I'm sure, the second one for sure.
I don't think there were many jumpscares, but as someone who doesn't like underwater stuff in general, I remember my run I was constantly stressed during the entire run. I still enjoyed the game a lot, it's great, always felt like starting again to progress, but I would play like 1 or 2 hours and then take a break(normally I'll play a game for 4-6hours at a time) because most of the time playing I just stressed over the lack of visibility, weird sounds and all the usual underwater stuff. Even lategame when I could basically body everything easily it still felt stressful. Still was an enjoyable game though, don't know if 2 will get anywhere close so I would also recommend just playing the first one.

I got my ship tonight , went to tortuga, and really got into it.

This is great. Love the systems so far.

But yeah, combat is a mess. im playing solo offline. parry is great until you get to a camp of 7 pirates that all aggro you.

the root joust thing is real, works, I use it but for dorks like me who solo i can just overwhelm.

I love the ship combat. Legit. Crafting is great. IF you have a crew I imagine this is amazing. Even solo im 7 hours in and love it.

Ya, early on the combat is pretty meh. You get some starting gunpowder, but then you run out and can't use ranged until you can get more and the game doesn't make it clear off the bat how you get more. Even with ranged, it hits barely harder than your sword with your starting guns anyways. The game also doesn't really give you a good chance to learn how to parry in a "safe" environment - all the low level shit will still 1 or 2 shot you even on normal difficulty, so if you fuck up your parry you just end up dying and having to run back to your corpse, so as a result you just end up jousting and kite to get stamina back because it is lower risk. Plus early on there are a lot of swarming enemy POI, which further just encourages you to joust rather than try to parry.

Nah, I won't call you curmudgeonly for playing how you want to play. But I will simply ignore your criticism of "grindy" when the game gives you the tools to fix it and you simply refuse to use them.

For people struggling with the combat in this game. This is the best breakdown of combat, stats, talents, and gear I have seen.

First thing I learned in the game was that you can throw down a tent practically anywhere and set it as the respawn point. Second thing was that if you don't put down at least a bonfire too, you're probably going to die a second time because it's basically impossible to do anything without the rested buff active. Makes trying to learn the combat a lot less painful when you only have a 10 second run back.

So do you get more loot for boarding a ship because I can't see a difference over boarding or destroying it outright.

Enshrouded is one of my favorite games in the last 10 years probably. Think I have like 300 hours on it.

Yeah, I probably have like 100 tents all over the islands from doing the bind point rush with them.

You get silver coins for boarding but the cargo reward is generally the same

Definitely don't bother boarding early when you have crap gear and can just get oneshot by sergeants. Upgrade your boarding rig ASAP and let your crew solo the ships while you take potshots from your boat.

This sounds very Dark Souls-esque. One might even call it...Soulslike?

The game straight up advertises itself as being a Soulslike, yet all the complaints I keep hearing are.."UH GUYS?! Combat is really hard and I keep getting owned!!!". If you don't enjoy Soulslike combat that's fine, it isn't for everyone. But the amount of people acting shocked that beginner mobs are kicking their ass boggles zee mind.

You do get more loot, but the beginner ships it's hardly worth it because the difference is so negligible. It starts mattering more the further you go along. Any of the "hauler" type ships (they have the "box" icon) are generally better rewards, since they are supposed to be "cargo" ships.
