And will then grow up to spend their time, and more importantly, theirmoneyon American football, basketball, and baseball. Probably in that order. K.O. is so right.

When A Tie Is A Win, We All Lose - YouTube
Do none of your other sports use the concept of groups with points scored for victories that may put you so far ahead, the last game doesn't matter? Or is KO just holding Football to a higher standard than the other sports?

We hate tying in America. In real football if there's a chance there's going to be a tie, you'll see teams take ridiculous risks to avoid it.

The outcome didn't matter only because Portugal won. That is 20/20 hindsight. If Ghana had won, the US/GER outcome would have absolutely mattered, in that only a tie would advance both teams forward. Saying it didn't matter NOW is intellectually dishonest when K.O.'s segment was aired the night before the match.

It's all irrelevant really, because no one in the US is going to give a shit about soccer when we eventually lose in the next round.

The only other major sport that's played in the US that uses a point system for wins and ties would be hockey. Ironically, that sport didn't originate here either.

Nothing with the small scope of the WC RR stage. Resting starters in meaningless games (i.e. so far ahead in the standings) does happen in all of our pro leagues though.

NFL too, if you consider a win 1 point, and a tie 0.5 point, though rarely will an NFL game end in tie (average every 10 years?)

That wasn't the question he asked. It's not the tie so much as the fact that our loss didn't end up mattering because we had already beaten Ghana and tied Portugal. And yes, we do have other sports where that could happen.

Why do people feel the need to come in here and troll?

I don't think I've ever clicked on the NBA or NFL threads.

Okay, that's interesting. Defour sent off for Belgium.

Suspended for the USA match as it is unless Korea goes goal crazy on them and Algeria turns it around vs Russia. Unlikely to happen though.
