No. Ion joined Blizzard in summer 2008, when WoW was around Sunwell in BC. His "claim to fame" was "mathematically proving" with his Elitist Jerks buddies (who also joined Blizzard) that C'Thun was unkillable. That's it.
He wanted to be an encounter designer, and now he got Peter Principle'd way over his head, as the only thing he is interested in are his raids and world first races. Where he nerfs and stealth nerfs unkillable encounters, because obviously (and unlike FFXIV, where the hardest raid encounters are playtested by an internal team with mixed skill) Blizzard has no actual internal balancing tools and an actual QA testing team.
There are no OG's left at Blizzard, as the OG's all knew that the core design of WoW was to make an EverQuest without the pain points. The current crop of WoW leadership and designers have no actual idea where the game actually came from, and have zero connection to the genre--well, except maybe Holly, but her track record at SOE isn't stellar.
And this is how you get shit like "We wish we wouldn't have called it Warcraft back then", and players clamoring to abandon "tedious shit no one wants to do", like ... leveling. While we are at it we can also remove "tedious shit" like travel, outdoor zones and gearing as well? Are you sure you want to play an MMORPG and not some lobby multiplayer game?
The lesson you should learn from all this: Don't hire your fans.
