Watched some of Sodapoppins prep for it. From what I understand the tournament was open to all, but even if you have played since 04, you can't really compete without the time invested to properly prepare. Combined with streamer privilege. Not really gold since streamers stopped accepting that a while back due to risk of being banned (even an addon made to see if the player who offered gold was "legi)", but stuff like being able to assemble 30+ hunters for a raid to grind level 50 mobs at level 30 to try to get faction items for a 18 slot bag which would give more inventory slots. Since when you entered the tournament, you couldn't leave so you needed to bring all the potions, grenades, items and extra gear with different resists with you.
Soda has been playing 10+ hours every day for a month just to min max every slot in his bags reviewing his slots at every patch and tournament rule change. His statement a while back that the winner was guaranteed to be a streamer is probably accurate. You don't just need the experience and skill, but a massive time investment leading up to the tournament which "regular" people don't have.
