I might have gotten lucky, but it seems like drop rates on shit quests are much better this week.

Watched some of Sodapoppins prep for it. From what I understand the tournament was open to all, but even if you have played since 04, you can't really compete without the time invested to properly prepare. Combined with streamer privilege. Not really gold since streamers stopped accepting that a while back due to risk of being banned (even an addon made to see if the player who offered gold was "legi)", but stuff like being able to assemble 30+ hunters for a raid to grind level 50 mobs at level 30 to try to get faction items for a 18 slot bag which would give more inventory slots. Since when you entered the tournament, you couldn't leave so you needed to bring all the potions, grenades, items and extra gear with different resists with you.

Soda has been playing 10+ hours every day for a month just to min max every slot in his bags reviewing his slots at every patch and tournament rule change. His statement a while back that the winner was guaranteed to be a streamer is probably accurate. You don't just need the experience and skill, but a massive time investment leading up to the tournament which "regular" people don't have.

That's insane lol.

Now he is antagonizing about what 1 item to lose in order to put something else in. While his chat is trading him his missing potions to fill up, though he doesn't need it since his bank looks like his bags.

Seems like a dumb event. I feel like everyone should have the same resources if its going to be based on skill and not who has the most simps farming you items. Either the event provides everyone with the same consumables or no one gets access to them. Otherwise I'm not seeing the point.

Its manufactured drama and publicity.

It would be cool if Blizzard could find a way to implement an annual Best of the Best tournament like EQ. Those were always so fun to watch and great for the community to follow.

My biggest PVP rivalries were always against those who were the same class. I remember in BGs, we'd just ignore everyone else and go after each other the entire match.

Funniest memory was in EOTS during OG Cata, there was a faggot goblin ele sham I'd always run into. We would spend the whole match thunderstorming each other and each other's teams off the platform in the middle. IIRC getting off to that was what started my career in PVP trolling.

Classic WoW (at least TBC) already had matchmaking in it, but it gave up and matched premades with PUGs eventually after some period of time. That functionality isn't new to "Season of Discovery" whatever that is. I'm not keeping up with the classic realms. (what's with these dumb names Bliz keeps coming up with?)

I would know since I made the addon that allowed premades to get around the matchmaking with coordinated solo queuing. Originally I made it just for AV but people started hacking it to work on other BGs, which I didn't like or approve of. I kept having Curse take the hacked versions down. Eventually I got sick of that (I'm sure Curse was annoyed as well) and didn't want to lose control over my work so I implemented it myself even though I didn't want it to exist. Since I did PUGs a lot I had the displeasure of having my addon being used against me.

A year or two after I quit the game, people started trying to take control over it again by adding roles and crap into it (tank healer dps) and Curse outrageously gave my addon's project page to a usurper, so I emailed Blizzard making a case for why my own addon is toxic to the game, requesting they break it at the API level, even though I would lose Curse bucks from having it disabled. They did break it just the way I suggested soon after I emailed them although they didn't respond to me (why would they, that would be polite) so it might have been a big coindence. I emailed them again just before Classic launched in 2019 to make sure my addon wouldn't work in Classic either. Again no reply but they did break it.

Anyway Blizzard will need to mix up the queuing somehow to prevent people from getting around the matchmaking as an addon is not required. Hopefully they're smart enough to.

I didn't mind queuing up solo and finding myself as wheat before the scythe, not exactly. What bothered me was getting nothing for being a good sport about getting five capped 500 to 0 by a premade trying to squeeze as much honor per minute as possible. The incentives are to not even queue at all because what's the point. This removes participants from a system that very much wants a surplus of glorified extras for people to mow down. A load of derps just showing up and playing a little impacted how the old system worked even with additional slots opening up each week for top earners.

Thats some meta level cuckery right there.
Didn't matter though. Soda down to lower bracket. The good warlocks are beating everyone. Fear, fear, fear, fear, fear. No warlocks at the lower tier so far though since they haven't lost yet, but there will be since there are already matches with only warlocks in the top tier.

The duels are getting less and less fun to watch. Nonstop fear haha.

Someone mentioned it earlier but a BotB format would have been so much better. Especially with the server locked to 30 right now.
