Honestly this is going to be glorious. That said, I really do not like the WoWP and WoWS tech tree layouts, they just irk me not having the options of WoT. Yea, I know they are similar to classic WoT but meh. That said I can't wait until they add individual variants of each class too, which they are setting up by using the actual ship names vs. class names.

Ya, I prefer the WoT layout, but I started to get used to it over the 2 weekends so I'll live.

Wonder if theyve wiped or I'll still have my ships from the 2 weekends? And, having seen that video, also wondering if being able to blow chunks off the icebergs will become a real thing? They've been yapping about building destruction in WoT for a fair while now but have technical issues with it, but with WoWS designed new from the ground up it might be practical in this game.

Tarrant- theyre going to be giving away codes at the beginning till they have the number of testers they want (They havent said how many that is), so start camping the place beginning of thursday for code opportunities if you want in. Obviously that goes for everyone else too.

I watched the steams yesterday. Looked like a random clusterfuck of running around in circles hoping to shoot someone. Hopefully that changes as they get more experiences at it.

I got into the beta, but not downloading till I see some changes in videos before I invest any time in it.

So a few things to note:

1) Gameplay does not really feel as deep as WoT yet. Obviously still in low tiers but it seems like there's less "doing" and more "planning to do and hoping it doesn't go tits up".
2) Not sure where voiceovers are, I can't hear them in the beta. It really sucks when you're not sure if shells are doing anything if the scrolling combat text is obscured.
3) Ships are just way, way more prone to over-commitment than tanks. Obviously. But for the map size it seems sometimes the best option is just to clump up and wait for the enemy instead of actually pushing anywhere. Doesn't work on every mode of course.
4) Destroyer smoke screens are dumb. They should literally 'lay' smoke as they go, so they should have to literally fucking go in a big circle if they want a big ass circle of smoke. Right now they are just like 1/4 cubic mile of smoke just appears instantly. It's dumb.
5) Game feels empty without crew skills and equipment like tanks. Just not as much 'customization' or whatever. Yea yea bullshit blizzard 'illusion of customization' whatever, still like it.

Overall, cool game but very shallow right now. Might run aground. Also, zero damage for running aground is kind of dumb, not that it isn't extremely punishing when in combat but still.

I guess number 5 there's commander stuff and ship upgrades when you 'level up' so I guess there's that.

Unfortunately, there's one thing that goes along with number 3 - the end of the games are stupid, stupid slow. You get this shittastic group of slow ass ships who need to catch up with 2 carriers 300 miles away and it is just ... 5 minutes of painful nothingness. Sometimes they could cap it out but it can go really slow anyway and other times they're just far as hell from the cap points.

Oh well.

I would give my left titty to try this. I never had much of an interest in world of tanks, but warships apples to me on a whole nother level.

I just noticed that you can buy into the beta for $29 and that gets you a premium tier 4 cruiser, some gold and 30 days of premium. It's a little more than I'd want to pay for access to the closed beta of a F2P game but some people might be interested. I don't think there is any word on how much longer the closed beta will be continuing.

Edit: Adding a link.

I'm kind of excited to try it out but I suspect it will fall off quickly for me as WoT has. Kind of fun to fire up every now and then but not compelling over the longer term.

That never changed in WoT. People are downright shit at these games but they force you to play with these idiots.

And capture the flag makes fuck all sense as well.

That's my biggest problem. Naval warfare is engaging based upon tactical situations. I posted a thread on the idea boards about adding objectives like: covering beach landings, taking out the enemy airfield, escorting a convoy, etc. and everyone basically responded that it would ruin the simple fun of the game.

lol.

My issue with WoT is that I have been completely unable to get into a single platoon (at all), much less a random that will cooperate and communicate. Probably will be the same with this but...it's boats!

If you read about real naval battles, very rarely are naval battles conclusive because the admirals are (rightly) very protective of their ships and men, so they generally either only tentatively engage or bug out at the slightest sign of disadvantage.

I have a feeling we'll see the Yamato ram the Iowa within 5 minutes of this going live...

True and yes that already happens. The problem is also one of scale. There are relatively few picket ships and it's all close range so certain things just don't work well. You will never see anything like a real naval engagement here because there's no objective besides smash ships together.

Has anyone heard whether they are still sending out CBT invites? I applied a month ago and have not heard anything. I'm guessing they have all they need at this point.

Kinda doubt it since they are selling access already.

But really, it's just not worth it right now. You can find better browser naval games. I hope they fix it unlike WoWP but we'll see.

I do my monthly check in on this game: How is it coming along, CBTers? I signed up about the time that the CBT started and never saw an invite. I've watched a lot of streaming and I'd like to try it out but I'm still hesitant to drop $30 for what is essentially EA on a F2P game, especially when it's almost certainly about to exit CBT.

Anyone have an invite code they haven't used? How is play polishing up?
