Some weird bug today. My talents all disappeared and I haven't figured out how to get them back. I had lvl 26 talents now I have nothing.

Lol soooo interestingly.

I am playing on linux and messed around with a lot of stuff. This allowed me to launch the game and bypass the launcher. But still play the game with a client that was out of date for their patches. Why this let me log in at all I have no idea.

For bronzebeard aka warcraft reborn, I have run around and explored pretty much every nook and cranny. Not quite, there are still a few dozen enchants that we haven't discovered yet but not for any classes im concerned about so not really a huge deal for me.
Have leveled 4 dudes now, my druid i leveled twice (back when you had to prestige to unlock heirlooms) and now with the pending release in the next 2-6 weeks I've kinda lost motivation. Knowing its all getting deleted ya know? I still log in and do dailies on my shaman and druid and I help out people when I can but im kinda in cruise control right now waiting on launch.

So I started up CoA (another ascension server on ptr) which has been delayed for a while but also trying to launch this year. They merged the base world database with bronzebeard, so the CoA devs could focus on classes and not worry about the world, since they are both planning on doing vanilla > tbc > wotlk progression. This means all the bb changes are also here, which is a fucking trip.

Almost none of the CoA classes were designed to handle the increased mob difficulty at low levels, many don't even get the necessary skills until 10-15 so lots of classes are just straight up dying at lvl 1-2 to lvl 1 mobs. There's a little bit of this on bb but coa classes are even worse.

Maybe because its I always level with Aura and thus every mob is 4 levels below me, but I haven't had that problem.

Mobs cannot be below level 1 bro.

It's really only an issue sub 10, many CoA classes only have like 1 ability to start. I mean its kinda the same for og classes having only like 2 spells like a shaman has lightning bolt and heal but that barebone kit is better than 1 skill that does only 75% weapon dmg which is weaker than lvl 1 sinister slice from a rogue.

CoA classes wasnt designed for tougher mobs at super low level. It stops being a problem by 10 and by 15 CoA classes are so overpowered it hardly matters, but that initial few levels in the newbie area people are dying every other fight lol

Can't decide if I actually like CoA.

None of the new classes are really my brand of class fantasy. Closest thing I guess is reaper but not the edgy aesthetic but out of interest in self sustainable melee dps vis life steal mechanics.

I called the server retail classic and people got butthurt, but it really is. Its content is thr Classic vanilla>tbc>wotlk progression, but the classes feel very bloaty like retail, no enchanting system, retail talent trees, and mana storm makes it all feel like what I imagine retail is like (tbf I don't know retail wow)

Ok so after fucking around on CoA for a few weeks and I finally "get" it.

What they've actually done vs what they wanted to do with this server.

What they did:
21 new classes each with 3-4 fully implemented specs ie like 70 classes. This is and of itself is an incredibly feat, every single class is fully implemented and feels good and nearly every single spec has a place. Sure some are better than others ultimately but it really is about finding a class fantasy + archetype + playstyle that meshes with what you want to do, ie evil + Tank + proc based rotation.

Each class represents a various NPC faction/class fantasy. I think they realized that it was a bigger fish than they could handle so they've kinda changed some of the names to be more generic but at their heart each class is an NPC faction and that class has 3-4 builds typically representing everything, tank, heals, ranged/spell dps, melee dps. Each class is pretty much their own ecosystem, if that makes sense.

Now they've been focused on classes and class balance and not really on quests/the world/etc so they ended up just merging baselines with Bronzebeard and borrowing all their changes (minus mystic enchants, there is no mystic enchants on this server) but you can see the foundation of what they actually wanted to do was very much not "classic" at all.

What they wanted to do:
redo races/starting areas/factions/questlines so that the classes are actually the thing that they represent. Like Necromancers are Cult of the Damned/Scourge aligned, they should start in eastern plaguelands at stratholme or something. Cultists are worshippers of the old gods they should start in AQ. Blood Mages are vampire/werewolfs and should start at Shadow Fang Keep, Venomancers should start in hinterlands at the Shadra' shrine, Templars are scarlet Crusaders they should start at Hearthglen, etc.

All the classes are the various NPC factions that we see in the game, there's "good", neutral/nature, and evil. Troll witch doctors aligned to Black Rock spire, elven rangers aligned to Quel'Lithien. Knights of Xoroth should start the game coming out of an altar of storms having been summoned by warlocks there (they are demons from the planet xoroth who are possessed in the corpses of the fallen here on Azeroth), felsworn followers of the burning legion...

They really need to remake at least 3 "hub" main cities, good, neutral, and evil and remove all horde/alliance faction entirely. The classes you play are the NPC factions, the alliance and horde cities should be turned into content, just like all the NPC cities/hubs are really just content for everyone else.

3 hub cities doesn't really make sense of course, from an RP standpoint it should be more like EQ where starting cities are based more on religion than race (at least, for human/half elfs). they should have like 15 cities, there's some cross over of course but like Cultists of the old gods wouldn't align with cult of the damned, etc.

Which I think is why they haven't gotten around to doing that, that is a monumental task

Bronzebeard sounds interesting. But at least on Epoch quest drops were shared (unless tradable items like meat), so people would be helpful and group up. I wonder if we'll see lines for slow spawning quest kills again. Sounds like the opposite of fun.

Not only are quest drops shared on bronzebeard, you also don't even have to be grouped to get kill credit for quests. If someone comes along and steals your quest mob just keep attacking it you will get credit for the kill even though you wont get the exp or loot if they tagged it first. Or you know, feel free to help out your fellow newbs if they seem like they are struggling on a quest mob, you get credit for it. The days of endless congo lines forming around sarketh or whatever named quest mob in durotar aren't a thing on bb.

Also they've now merged the core databases so pretty much all of the bronzebeard changes (harder, rpg stat'd mobs with item loot, world forged, tradeskill upgrades, and revamped newbie areas) are now on classless (a52) and seasonal random skill live servers (elune)

I stand corrected, thanks! That's a good feature.

I'll be playing a shaman on there. I think.

I didn't know that you could use the runes to upgrade items. That's a nice feature.

confusing... wtf is bronze beard vs ascension? plus wasnt this about classless mechanics?
Ascension is a WoW development group that creates multiple private servers. The classless servers are named Area 52 and Elune. They are also working on Conquest of Azeroth and Bronzebeard. And they took control of Project Epoch.

Just judging by how much of the existing features from their classless realm they have integrated into BB I think they will have a faster dev cycle than the Epoch project that they took on.

So what the registration process for bronzebeard, I loaded up ascension launcher but looks like it says not allowed to make bronzebeard character yet. Do I need to register separately somewhere for it?

So, this looks decently like Classic +, but also way WAY more shit thrown in. Yet, not as Retail-Like as Bronzebeard? Not a fan of the updated character models with those stupid facial expressions.

So many different servers from Ascension its hard to keep track of what's what.
