Spencer retiring is one thing but Bond leaving on the same day seems more of a firing but being allowed to say "resign" kinda thing.
That's usually how upper/executive management is handled in major publicly traded companies - they probably get the option of taking a nice exit package in exchange for resigning behind closed doors, and then they "retire" or "seek opportunities elsewhere/focus on their family".
But to Goat's point, the current issues with the hardware/ram market + lackluster releases in recent memory + MS expanding their game division very rapidly and at great expense for less than great returns was a recipe for a shakeup. Granted they can't have much control of the RAM/hardware bullshit, but those later 2 and the shakeup in their games division will probably see MS taking a different approach.
