Massive grenade nerfs rolled out with the DLC today. They really don't have the slightest fucking clue what they're doing.

Nerf to all tier 2 grenade damage, nerf to proximity mine damage and radius, volatile mix no longer gives grenade radius.

Turns out you don't even need a mod to reverse it though, just 30 seconds editing some ini files.

Narrative mission popped up for me about halfway through month 2.

I'm disappointed that they went the mad scientist route with Dr Vahlen, although I suppose it isn't much of a stretch. You don't know for sure she's still alive, you just know she didn't die at the site where the narrative mission occurs, but since there's only the one narrative mission with the DLC, I assume her whereabouts are just going to stay a mystery.

As for rulers, holy fucking shit. They get a reaction EVERY SINGLE TIME one of your dudes acts. When you disable them, instead of being disabled for a full turn, they're instead disabled for X number of actions. So you get a 2 point stun on a ruler, you get 2 actions before the stun wears off and the ruler gets to start reacting again. Nobody died but so many people were wounded, I think one death would have cascaded into game over, and this was just on veteran because I wanted to get a feel for the DLC. Totally nuts.

Sharpshooters have been unexpectedly difficult to use. They seem to always be out of range.

So Shen's Last Gift tentatively confirmed to be a MEC of some kind, judging from the squire/knight/paladin rank names. No clue what the other ones are for, maybe adding the commander as a playable character or something? I'm also guessing RaysMask refers to a new piece of unique wargear.

Not afaik. Who cares, plenty of hacking mods. I mean obviously I don't think a studio should just drop a poorly balanced title out and expect modders to polish it, but the basic hacking functionality is good enough and there are a variety of mods to choose from that probably do a better job than Firaxis would. I do admit that unmodded hacking is entirely too dependent on lucking out with some +20 hack rewards on your specialist in the early game on higher difficulties, but it doesn't take much to make hacking too consistent. When you can reliably get 100% easy hacks, concealment gets even more powerful and robotic units are a lot less threatening.

It's been a few months since I played this, but I'll be getting back into it with the new DLC. Are there any mods that I should take a look at now?

I also have some flavor adders like some armor mods, voice packs, and additional skins so I can run a Mass Effect Crew.

If you do use mod everything, do not put an expanded magazine upgrade into the bolt caster. Flat out cheating. Also, Planet Express > Normandy, although I do like keeping Zaeed 'Reaper' Massani around as a Sniper when I'm not rolling with Hermes 'Eleven Inch' Conrad.

Sulrn didn't mention a lot of QoL mods that don't really affect gameplay. A couple of these may have finally been patched into the base game, most haven't been.

True Retroactive AWC
Quiet Bradford

As far as additional classes go, I'm partial to Lucubration's Infantry class, and the Ranger / Sword Rebalance mod by Daedalus. The Infantry class is definitely OP in a vanilla game, but it actually scales down in potency when you add mods with larger enemy squads. The Ranger rebalance by Daedalus rearranges the order of abilities and overhauls (and buffs) the sword tree. The drawback is that it pretty much kills build diversity, you either build straight down one side or straight down the other. Also, unless you add in a mod where melee enemies are more common (A Better Advent introduces weaker Chrysallids much earlier and they are no longer retaliation only), shotguns will still be better.

I'm just waiting for beagle and whomever he's collaborating with to collect all their long-war-esque shit (Guerilla War?) into one mod.

Got a feel for Shen's Gift so I decided to start another mod crazy campaign.

+2 squad size (start at 6, upgrade to 7/8), A Better Advent, ABA Better Pods (will switch to Better Pods Plus if this isn't hard enough), Additional Mission Types, Extended Dark Events

For classes, I've got Lucubration's Infantry and Sniper, Rogue, SpecOps, Samurai, Field Medic, and Shadow Ops pack, with the vanilla classes disabled. Should be a unique experience since the only class I actually have experience playing is Luc's Infantry.

I look down on you for using Rogue and SpecOps both of those are set for cheese runs.
Never used them before. Rogue doesn't seem like anything special so far but I can already tell SpecOps is broken as fuck. Killing an enemy without breaking concealment seems reasonably balanced if you can do it once a mission, maybe a second time per mission as the capstone of the stealth tree. Being able to do it multiple times per mission as early as corporal? Hell no. I'll probably just use him as a phantom scout like I would with a ranger and make minimal use of his stealth kills. The lowered stealth detection is stuff I can already get from Grimy's Loot Mod, so it's no big deal.
