i think the other yakuza games left gamepass after almost exactly 1 year so you probably have 1 year to play these games

i just finished yakuza 2 (fantastic!!) a few months ago so usually wait 6 months to play, but i bought the 3-5 collection digitally on PS5 when it was $30 so i'll play 3 sometime this spring or summer. I've heard 3 is ok, older controls and combat but story is decent

if you've never played i'd 100% recommend starting with yakuza 0 and going in order, you won't really miss too much jumpiing in at any point but 0 is a great starting point

Yakuza 0 (zero) is the best one to start and I agree with everything. I have also just recently finished Yakuza Kiwami 2. As much as I want to buy and start with others, I will probably rather take a little break. They are so rich with content, lot of substories, mini games and stuff to do, so it's very easy to overburn.

Not sure what you mean by 'left gamepass' ? Yakuza 0-5 are all still currently available. Yakuza 6 isn't out yet but will be on Game Pass March 25th.

I mostly agree, but you really have to prepare yourself for the shift from 0 (fairly new PS4 game) to Kiwami 1/2 (very old PS2 games, and even though they're remade in the new engine they still show their age). Also, there's some minor spoilers/retcons for 1-5 in 0, since it was made between 5 and 6.

Edit: Correction - only Kiwami 2 was remade using the Dragon Engine. Kiwami 1 was remade in the old engine, which was used up until 0.

Besides Y7, Y0 is my favorite. The fighting styles add a lot to the gameplay.

Yakuza 7 took me by surprise. My favorite RPG of 2020. I just started Detroit Become Human. Really good so far.

So, doing zero. So far it’s fun, story is okay. Bit annoyed by all the fighting combos, and then fu use a bat in c3. Don’t really want to learn too many combos, also play SC VI. I like the speedy style in c2 on the first char.
Mmm, so what happens to all the substories if I don’t get them in the chapter they become available. Can I get them later? I’m told some of them gives access to recruitable chars later, business advisors or something. And the mini games, fml. Trying to do mahjong atm, somehow never played it in my life. No gf so far, no idea how romance works in zero.
God, I should be reading something work related instead, but so far suckered in.
Oh, and when do you guys beat the robber / big guy wandering? He one-shots me in both c2 and 3.

I just avoided the big robber guy and reset if he stole my money.

To follow up on my earlier post, I've now beaten the entire Yakuza series so I can add a bit more.

-The best order to play the series is definitely Y0-YK1-YK2-Y3-Y4-Y5-Y6, without a doubt. None of them are what I would consider particularly skippable, all are worthwhile.

-It might be a little jarring going from YK2 to Y3 since Kiwami 2 has by far the best visuals of the first five. From what I can tell YK2 is made with the Y6 engine, which is far superior to the engine the others used. YK2 was also the last one they made so it makes sense.

-I would rank them Y0>YK2>LAD>Y6>Y5>Y4>Y3>YK1 but that's just me. Y1 is dated and Y3/4 get pretty redundant. Y1 feels like the "worst" but it's worth playing for the story and also because it's quick. YK2 is objectively probably the best one, but I give 0 the edge over it because you play as two characters instead of the usual one, and the second character is AWESOME. 4 and 5 also have multiple characters but I didn't find them as interesting for the most part as the new character in 0.

-Y:Like A Dragon is basically its own self-contained thing and can be played independently of the rest. Doesn't fit in anywhere with the series really. It's an RPG, completely different from the beat-em-up style of the others. Worth playing if you like the newer Personas and the South Park RPGs, as it feels like a combination of the two. Just bear in mind that it takes about half as long as the rest of the series combined. Wouldn't start with it.

-Rough timeframe of how long it took me to beat all of them... Did the main quest and some sidequests, nowhere near completion on any which takes a lot longer: Y0 22 hrs, Y1 12 hrs, Y2 15 hrs, Y3 12 hrs, Y4 10 hrs, Y5 30 hrs, Y6 10 hrs, LAD 55 hrs. LAD is obviously the longest by a large margin, but Y5 is also pretty beefy so don't start it right after Y4 unless you want to run into burnout midway through.

-I can't emphasize enough that it's a bad idea to marathon this series. You WILL get burned out. I started getting burned out during YK2, and it's debatably the best game in the series. If you don't get burned out by then, you'll definitely get burned out in the fairly mundane Y3. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I enjoyed the series a lot more when I was taking a couple months break between games. I rocketed through 0 and 1, took a break for a month, played 2, took a break for another month, played 3 and 4 rapid-fire, took a break for about five months, played 5, took a break for a month, played 6. I never got TOO burned out except maybe towards the end of 4. This is absolutely not a series to marathon, in any case. It took me nearly a whole year to play through them all (Nov 2019 to Aug 2020).

3-4-5 are worth playing for sure, but yeah they're probably the least-worth playing. 5 is the best one to be stuck on a deserted island with because you could spend like 200 hours on it. My 30 hours was a low-ball because I only did the main story.

LAD isn't really "Yakuza 7" because it's an entirely new story and self-contained. If it gets a sequel it'll be LAD2, etc.

I haven’t played any but zero. So far I can beat ppl up with a bat, get mugged by a giant japanese duke nukem, collect japanese porn model phone cards, go to a pr0n vid store and watch softcore with the store dude, get a trophy for it and heal also, be an ex-yakuza and be afraid of murdering someone, play mahjong like a grandma, eat sushi and get completion points for it, wear annoying socks that make bling sounds and also multiply my dough, get millions for showing the phone cards found on the street to a collector, pay hundreds for a gun, and invest billions into being more brawlerish, and sell plates for millions at the pawn store while buying an umbrella for 300K. I’ll never have the same relation to money after this game. Play it now.

I have only played 3 games (Y0, Kiwami 1 and 2). YK2 definitely looks much better then 2 previous ones. It's so nice to go out and explore Sotenbori and Kamurocho. For me the best parts about Yakuza games are story and substories. Substories are crazy good and I just love the cringe humour. IMHO it's shame to miss substories. They are worth at least trying. If you miss any substory you can finish it later after you beat the story. There is "Premium adventure" which works like free roam.

Definitely agree about burn out. Few days ago I completely finished Yakuza Kiwami 2. Obtained all achievements on Steam and it took me about 150 hours. It wasn't that bad since on the first run I combined everything. Little bit of main story, substories and mini games. Later on the premium adventure I finished leftovers and after that I did new game + on legend difficulty, but I kept my money, stats, abilites, weapons and gear, so it was easy and I enjoyed the story one more time.

Btw, I had huge problem with mahjong, since I didn't know how to play the game. Luckily, I found some online tutorials. Common mistake is that we have to call Riichi when we can. It's not automatic.

yakuza 0

yakuza 6 is weaker imo, Y0 is great and if you like it you can play the rest of the games, in order, at your leisure. ive taken 5 years to go through 4 games so far
