Side can openers are vastly superior to cuck can openers. Plus the holes in the twisting nob were so you could put something for extra leverage, the makers of top can openers assume their buyers are too weak to twist the knob and are probably right.

Always have knives on your key rings as a back up for if you forget your shoe knife, belt knife, wallet knife or pocket knife.

you know you are getting old, when you type out post about can opener from 30 years ago.

long ago, worked a few places that had them. one day health inspector came in, opened a can at each of the 3 in the kitchen. put the can and contents in a bag, then into a box. asked the chief what the guy was doing, he said they were measuring the amount of metal that got into the food. the chief was from Italy and English was like he 4th language. he would sometimes get his words wrong and i said something like, you mean if there is metal in it? he said no, there is almost always some metal in the food, just has to be under a certain amount.

still those can openers kicked ass, the thunk they make in always fun.
