WTF Google, it's recommending me some 10 year old Russian math course:

I guess I have successfully confused the bots at least.

What do you guys use to download YT videos? I want to DL the Bazzite install video so I can play it on my laptop while I'm installing on my Desktop.

Not sure where to put this. Is there any way to control what is shown to you on YouTube? The last month or so I get shit I have ZERO interest constantly being thrown at me.

if you don't use the "Not interested" and "Don't recommend channel" you can start using those, not sure there is much else you can do.

That's all I do. It doesn't work great. The algorithms definitely go off the rails sometimes. During the NFL championship games I saw a commercial for some stupid service where you get "custom" dog food delivered and I wanted to know what it cost just because it sounded ridiculous. I don't even have a dog right now and I would never buy this shit but I went to their website and of course they make you jump through a bunch of hoops before they will tell you the price. Then for the next week every third post on Facebook is an ad for this or some other stupid luxury dog food nonsense. I must have clicked "not interested" on 20 of them but they just kept coming. Then after a certain amount of time, it just stopped.

wish could see all the channels/vids i have marked Not interested / Don't recommend, it has to be in the thousands at the point.

if you watch youtube on desktop/browser (not the app) from the Home/Recommend tab, always open a questionable vid in a new tab. if it sucks, can go back to original tab and block ni/dr it and don't forget to downvote it.

something else i have noticed, whenever they adjust the algorithm, i will see 2 big changes, bunch of vids with less than 100 views and super old shit, like 10+ years old appear on my home tab.

Do yall prune your watch history? I don't know how much it helps but I generally delete videos from my history if I found them dumb or it's a subject I didn't find interesting. Such as occasionally clicking a video linked here to play for ~15 seconds to see what it's about, then realizing it's not something I want to watch.

Unfortunately they recently made it take an extra click and mouse movement to remove from history. It used to just be an (X) instead of three dots. For example, if I wanted to toss this inferior version of the two "Sanford & Son Themes" I found yesterday:

I continue to use the yt-dlp command line because it works on a bunch of sites beyond youtube.

I'm sure this was meant to help but wtf is that? I don't see where you download any of that. Am I supposed to somehow assemble that myself? I'm an electrician not a programmer. All I know of PC's is self taught.

For Github click the [<> Code] tab and Releases are listed on the right, but you probably want to scroll down that tab to the readme for installation instructions. Clarifies which file to download and other dependencies.

I linked to the list of sites that yt-dlp supports but i believe you need yt-dlp, deno, ffmpeg, ffprobe in the same folder at bare minimum. Something like the Hitomi GUI versions are easier to grab and go if you are only looking for youtube rips.
