I've watched a bunch of those review videos and the only woke shit mentioned was in one vid where this guy went off on a very long and repetitive rant because the main character (who can be male or female) is referred to in dialogue as they/them. Not enough to bother me in the slightest. I was more annoyed that I wasted my time watching the video.

It's basically X-com with a bit more focus on story. I'm in, but I'm seriously disappointed that it doesn't have mod support, which adds so much replay value.

That dude is a fucking retard and so are his viewers.

According to the recent skill-up video, the developers have a system implemented where it takes stock of your team after every battle and customizes a bit of dialogue to fit whoever's survived, and make a few references to whoever died.

I don't think long-term the story will actually change, it'll just be some references to the extras that rotate in and out.

Makes sense - they'll probably have some static characters for story consistency and then you can swap the player controlled shit interchangeably in cutscenes/etc

Unless it's some tricky wordplay there's been a strong implication that you only ever get the one force using character which should be interesting.

Of course 'perma-death' means something very different in modern XCom-alikes compared to what it meant in the original games. Even on commander/legendary the only time soldiers are likely to die is during the early game meatgrinder.

I don't mind losing "fodder" so to speak, but if there are story based characters they will always survive with the plot armor called save scumming. I'm not missing out on potential story based stuff (and potential missions) in a story heavy game. Especially if the story is good. With September and October being as stacked as they are with new / 1.0 releases I won't have time to play multiple runs. These games usually take quite a while to finish as well due to the nature of the combat.
